Meet Joan Zodianz | Astrologer, Author, Artist, & Spirit Medium

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joan Zodianz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joan, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose to pursue an artistic creative career because writing and art are things that I’m most passionate about. I love the idea of creating something timeless, impactful, emotional, intuitive, and inspirational for others to enjoy. It’s also my outlet for emotional expression.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I own a small business called Zodianz, which launched and was incorporated in 2016. I’m a one-woman show, so I’m really proud of everything that I’ve accomplished so far. I’m most proud of being a self-publisher, which is something that I’ve always wanted for myself. My astrology book (You Are More Than Just Your Sun Sign) was published in 2021, and I am now working on my own tarot deck that will launch sometime this year (2022) through Kickstarter. In this lifetime, I want to create 10 or more projects (books, decks, etc.) on my own.
I’ve done a lot of different projects before, but writing and art are my favorite things to project into the world. I’m just blessed to have people that like the work that I put out. However, none of it is as easy or glamorous as it sounds. There are a lot of behind-the-scenes that people just don’t see.
As sole owner, you have to wear many hats, work many hours, and devote yourself to your craft. Sounds cliche but it’s very true. If you do not have the discipline to work from day to night to make your dreams reality then business isn’t for you. You also have to learn new skills in order for your business to survive and whatever you cannot do yourself, you have to be able to hire out. Biggest tip I can give to anyone looking to start a business: start a business in things you’re already experienced in. There is nothing worse or more unsuccessful than someone starting out with a huge disadvantage: knowledge.
As a POC, Filipina American, it is hard to get recognition for anything I do. So it already means the world to me that people already recognize my achievements thus far. I am very blessed and humbled to have helped even one person through my work. It is my biggest dream come true so far.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m an introvert to the extreme. The best time ever is at my house where there will be food, karaoke, and drinking. Plus, the bathroom is right there. You can go as many times as you want. I also have hi-speed internet. Who doesn’t want that? Lol.
However, I do already meet up with friends every few months. I’m okay with going wherever they want to go. Las time, we went to sip & paint and that was fun.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to all my true supporters online and offline. My audience, whom I call friends and family, are people who always DM, comment, like and share all my posts; people who are there for every IG live; people who are excited and hype me up for every project that I do; and people that encourage me to always do what’s best for me. I’m very grateful, honored, and blessed to have such amazing people who support and love my work so much.
