We had the good fortune of connecting with Joana Sosa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joana, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Giving up can’t, shouldn’t, and will not be an option for me. I have learned that throughout life, you are either moving forwards or backwards. I love what I do and have come to realize the impact being yourself and consistently showing up has on your audience. I may not be famous, but having the attention of people around the world is a gift I will not waste or lose.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is truly just being as genuinely myself as possible. I wouldn’t say I’m too different than others, I just love God and dress accordingly. I have come to love myself in a way I never have before because of my deep love and reverence to the Lord. That really fuled my obsession with style and finding a venue that honored God but also made me feel cute and confident! It wasn’t easy. I definitely had to unlearn alot of things but I enjoyed the process nonetheless.
I’ve learned quite a bit of lessons along the way; the most recent being that the only person that can do the work and push through is me, no one else. No matter how much I may talk about doing things, without action, the words mean nothing!
I want the world to know that everything I do is meant to reflect my Creator. I am but a vessel for Him that just so happens to like style and fashion. I may not have the most incredible style, but I love being myself and showing people that modesty isn’t ugly or outdated!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ah, I love this!
I live in Miami so finding something to do is always fun!
To start the day, I’d love to have breakfast at the Tea Room in Homestead. It is sooo yummy and the location is so lush and green!
If we’re feeling up for it, we roam the Design District for a while and walk around the higher end shops. Every corner is aesthetic and it’s just fun to look at all the styles of the visitors in the area. Once we get hungry, we head over to Versailes, because you’re in Miami, you need to try Cuban food, duh.
Then to end the day, we head to over to the beach and finish the day off by the water. I love the beach closer to Fort Lauerdale so we would definitely have a blast! If we get hungry at this point, we can grab Pura Vida to end the day on a healthy and yummy note.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shoutout to my best friend, Emily. Without her, I wouldn’t know even half of what I know.
