Meet Joanna Revel | Fashion Entrepreneur and Creative director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joanna Revel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joanna, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I grew up in Sunny Southern California, in the suburbs outside of Los Angeles. The solid foundation of loving, reliable parents and a very creative older brother in music, most certainly inspired and shaped alot of my work ethic mixed with highly visual, creative inclinations, as the quote goes, we are a sum of everything and everyone we have ever met. Another strong influence is the dynamic, environment and diversity of California, my business and entrepreneur journey was heavily inspired by being exposed to diverse businesses growing up and seeing strong, inspirational women thrive and open their own small companies, early seeds that most certainly bloomed as I got older into developing my own entrepreneur journey.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
From the early early years, organizing dolls in my room, or creating small sticker books, I was always very drawn to Visuals, photography, cinema, visual merchandising. This strong interest led to studying film in university and working as a lead in visual merchandising in an upscale shop in Laguna Beach, in the late 90’s. All this inspiration led to developing a highly visual boutique of my own in Los Angeles, I called it Blue Violet, inspired by the flower of my birth month, and favorite color, as I do believe art and the pursuit of it is infinite and shows up In dynamic ways, my fashion entrepreneur journey has also led to pursue my own creative location photography business, the past 5 years. Showcasing my original photos in 10 different art shows as well, California locations and diverse topography most certainly inspired developing an eye for capturing the moment, its not only freeing, but speaks to the deeper side of wanting to create more Visuals, that help contribute more inspiration in my corner of the world 🌎

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles holds a very special place for me, having spent so much time there throughout its diverse corners and canyons.
If a dear friend was visiting for the day, a favorite spot to start would be a delicious brunch at Shutters on the beach, right in front of Santa Monica, a delicious menu, then off to the Getty Villa, only about 10 mins away, and to finish the afternoon, not too many miles away, a stroll down Malibu Pier, when the weather is on point, this itinerary is a fun, quintessential California day.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been heavily inspired by quite a few books, podcasts
Rick Rubin’s book A Creative Act, a Way of Being is a strong force of inspiration
Grey Revell my brother has walked the walk of a creative journey in this world, an inspiration as well
Other inspirations are very successful women in life and business
Clarissa Castillo Ramsey and Jacquie Wolfe,
And in the celebrity arena, a very strong inspiration is Soleil Moon Frye and Drew Barrymore, two strong lights in the world, that shine true individuality, very very strong inspirations in my life journey.
