We had the good fortune of connecting with Joaquim Adrià Pujol and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joaquim Adrià, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always liked making things, the artists temperament is not about being abnormally good at any individual discipline but having the curiosity and drive to teach your self how to do the things that interest you. A constant state of experimentation and innovation that at times can be obsessive or overwhelming. For this reason I never did well working in traditionally structured environments and perused a self employed model. I jump from gig to gig and project to project and embrace the chaos.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a film maker and fine art photographer. I experiment with a lot of alternative processes in the darkroom and use a hybrid analogue/ digital process that allows for lots of spontaneous discoveries. It’s a mix of technical and intuition that sets the stage for the work without there ever really being a set objective for the final outcome.

I bring a bit of that spontaneity to my film making – however it inherently requires more structure and pre production. So I find myself needed to contrast both art forms to feel creatively stimulated.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Probably a solid trip to the desert, dinner at Brothers Sushi and a movie at the Arrow theater.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have worked really closely with my friend Natalie Frank who founded Plot Twist. We share a creative workflow and feedback process that has helped motivate both of us and propel one another to continue innovating and most importantly follow through on projects that were losing momentum.
