We had the good fortune of connecting with Jocelyn Crawford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jocelyn, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
I am a mother of two biological children and a stepmother of 3. I think one of the most important things I’ve done as a parent is to allow them to see the hard work as well as the reward that comes from being a business owner/entrepreneur. They see first hand the unconventional hours, the struggle to balance work and life as well as the fruits of my labor. They get to see that Event Coordinating is not all about cotton candy and bounce houses. In between the confetti and balloons there’s client retention and vendor relationships, those are the things of value that you can build a business upon.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Cairo’s Custom Events is a full service event production company that takes pride in planning events that are not only visually pleasing but experientially as well. It’s been 8 years since we first started. We are still navigating the recent challenges that the event community is facing daily due to COVID-19 but we are dedicated to our clients. We will continue to help them celebrate life’s precious moments safely. Celebrating big does not mean a large guest count, the decor and overall experience can be elaborate even if it’s only 20 people attending. To be cliche’, time flies when you are having fun and I’m sure we have all been reminded that time is precious.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Living in Los Angeles can be very exciting. There is always something to do and new places to explore. I’ve been living here for over 15 years and still have so much that I haven’t experienced. You can take a hike up Runyon Canyon to take in the beautiful views or relax on the beaches of Malibu and feel the ocean breeze and sun. LA is a melting pot when it comes to the culture and food that can be found here. In one day you can find a food truck festival and taste food from all over the world. You can literally have food from Puerto Rico to Jamaica and enjoy beignets and Hawaiian Ice! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am no one woman show when it comes to fully executing my events. While I may work tirelessly on the theme curation and ideas, I relied a lot on my family and friends to assist with the day of execution. They were always willing to lend a helping hand. I am so grateful for everyone who helped encourage me along my journey.
I would also like to give a shoutout to all of the clients that return to seek out my services for their special celebrations. Client retention means a lot to me, when clients become “family”, when they call me for their baby shower, then the 1st birthday and then you look up and you are planning a 5th birthday party for the same client. My business continues to grow when those party guests become clients themselves. That is why it is always important to “knock it out the park” every time!
