We had the good fortune of connecting with Jocelyn Fletcher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jocelyn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always loved being behind the camera, and capturing moments, the beautiful in-between ones that are sometimes fleeting. The moments where the light hits just right, or the sunset sky is the perfect shade of pink. I’ve always had a passion to capture as many beautiful moments as I can.

Eventually, I started sharing my photos online, and people started to inquire with me about taking their photos, so nervous as I was, I decided to just give it a shot – and I fell in love with it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What I’m most proud of with my photography, is that I haven’t given up, and I have come a long way from where I was when started.

I have faced many life challenges over the years, which in turn affected my business – there were gaps of time where I put my camera down and didn’t pick it up for quite some time, but I never fully quit, and I’m proud to be able to say that.

I’ve learned that it is ok to take breaks when you are hitting burn out – make time for rest, it is so important.

Another lesson I’ve learned is to not worry so much about what others are doing. Yes I look up to others for inspiration, but comparison is where that can get rough. Not to mention how difficult it can be to build a business on social media – I’ve learned to let go, to be myself – and to just focus on loving what I’m doing and creating because I enjoy it.
I don’t need a large following to do any of those things, or even to have a successful business, and when I realized that a weight was definitely lifted.

I started focusing more on creating and editing the way I l wanted to, and what I was proud of, and that has made such a difference for me personally.

I’ve been able to be involved in some incredible projects recently, and I’m so thankful for that.

I absolutely love working with other creatives, I’m community over competition minded, and have started to connect with other photographers who feel the same, and it has been the best thing!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Let’s see, while there isn’t too much to do in Yucaipa, there are many beautiful places that are outdoors to visit. We could take a hike up in Crafton Hills, that is one of my favorite places to watch the sunset. There is also Wildwood State park, there are a few different trails where you can ride horses or walk, there is even a road that takes you up to some abandoned houses, people like to bike through that area. Oak Glen is definitely a must see, and more of a tourist hot spot, but Los Rios is my favorite place to grab some fresh apple cider and walk around their nature trails and enjoy the outdoors, nearby you can also pick up some mini apple cider donuts at Snow Line. Seasonally they have berry picking at both Snowline and Los Rios.
For a night out we would go to downtown Redlands, there are so many great restaurants and bars. My favorite place to grab food and drinks is at the Copehouse Bar & Bistro, I also know of a speakeasy in the area that has fantastic drinks. There are also many different shops along state street in downtown Redlands that are fun to check out – Little Swiss Chalet is the cutest boutique where you can pick up handmade candles and other goods from local artists.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shoutout to my husband, William. He has supported me through so many things, and life changes. Whenever I have doubted myself, he has always been the one to encourage me and boost my confidence. He helps me to get out of my head, and when I’m feeling anxious he’s right there with me. He has been my second shooter, my photography assistant, and anything else I have needed. He truly believes in me, and I am so incredibly grateful to have his love and full support.
