We had the good fortune of connecting with Jocelyn Pizarro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jocelyn, what inspires you?
All the women who have in some way shaped by business. I’ve gotten where I am because of them. The intention I put into my juices and food are solely for them. These creative goddesses who order week after week do not play about me. I owe it all to them I am extremely grateful. My customers who have turned friends are moms, experts in there fields, artists, doctors, business owners, beauty gurus etc and all divinely gifted they inspire me everyday.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My creativity stems from my love of nature. The Curly Vegan came about when I was in a space of not knowing. I just left a management position because I needed something more. I felt stuck and was in a funk. With all this extra time I spent most of it at farmers markets and in my kitchen. Juicing and cooking foods from my isla is how I found my spark again. My community responded in a way I did not expect. They wanted my juices, my food and my recipes so I kept going. I found joy in helping people with their daily food choices. I am so proud of my community, I serve mostly BIWOC in NYC and North Bergen. Since becoming a mom last year my biggest challenge has been providing some grace for myself. My daughter is my world and I have been blissfully lost in loving her. The Curly Vegan is an ever evolving woman serving her family and community. I am just getting started!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Summer in New York is unlike any other.

CBD lattes from CafeCannal
Brunch at Bunna Cafe in Brooklyn.
One of BreadxButta’s events from her Sparks and Recreation Summer series.
Breakfast Sandwiches from Bagels on Park in Weehaken Nj
A day at Asbury Park.
Treats from Howdelish in west orange Nj
Facials from Beautiiful.co in Harlem

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
One person I would love to shout out is Lynsey from breadxbutta who I met through my friend Shanis. So many firsts for me are because of our collaborations and her trusting me with her community. I’ve gained confidence in my work because she believed in what I had to say before I even knew that I was capable of educating others.
