Meet Joe Marcy | Business Development Executive, Non-Profit President, Commission Chairman, International Board of Trustees

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joe Marcy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joe, what inspires you?
I work with diverse, talented professionals that motivate and inspire. Our culture, values and commitment have been fundamental to our success. We’re collaborative, optimistic and eager to change the world.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I serve on the Global Board of Trustees for Meeting Professionals International (MPI) the largest meeting and event industry association in the world. I was President of the Southern California Chapter in 2017 and was later recognized as MPI Global Member of the Year.
As an Executive for the Monterey County Convention & Visitors Bureau, I contribute to the destination’s diversity, sustainability and tourism efforts. I received the Western Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus (WACVB) Scholarship and became a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) and Certified Incentive Travel Professional (CITP).
I was later recognized in Collaborate Magazine’s “40 under 40” issue and was named Smart Meetings Magazine’s “Visionary Supplier of the Year”.
In my spare time, I volunteer with the Human Rights Campaign, the P.S. I Love You Foundation and The Trevor Project. I’m Chairman of the Manhattan Beach Cultural Arts Commission and President of the Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair Association. I was honored with the Mayor’s Award in 2012 and recently received commendations from the Los Angeles County Supervisor’s Office and California State Assembly.
I’m incredibly proud to serve our community. At an early age, I learned the value of meaningful work. I will say this – over time, you’ll identify individuals that understand and support your journey. They’re truly a gift.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles is unique and diverse. It’s incredible to see the transformation over the years. Enjoy the beach, cultural museums, sporting events, restaurants and shops. Our championship teams and venues are worth experiencing. We spend quite a bit of time in Manhattan Beach, enjoying local restaurants and shops. We also drive up the coast to Monterey County often. It’s breathtaking.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to take this opportunity to recognize: Meeting Professionals International (MPI), the Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair Association, Monterey County Convention & Visitors Bureau (MCCVB) and the Manhattan Beach Cultural Arts Commission. Truly extraordinary organizations and committees that make a difference.
I’m grateful for my faith, family and friends that have supported my journey.
