We had the good fortune of connecting with Joe Silva and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joe, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is scary, yet, exciting. I worked in the medical field for 18 years before giving my two-weeks notice to pursue my passion full-time, so I think I know a little about risk lol. I left in September of ‘23 and I’ve had zero regrets. If you work hard and have a great support system, anything is possible.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being on social media, presentation and approach are always factors into getting noticed. After using my phone to take videos and pictures, I told myself it was time for an upgrade; this is when I purchased a camera. Although I continue to film my cooking, I also wanted to branch out into other areas like portraits, nature and monumental moments for people. I started taking pictures and video where you’d think most photographers would: home. My kids were the prime subjects for photography practice and it’s become an enjoyment to simply know I’ll have these beautiful shots forever. I’m always learning new things about being a photographer so I believe there will always be room for improvement. Regardless of my experience, I will strive to continue learning and getting better.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A perfect week itinerary would look like this:
After arrival at LAX, we visit Orachon, the famous noodle house in downtown LA. We’d then visit Amoeba, the awesome music store and walk around what LA has to offer. The next day, we spend all day in Long Beach – first at the Queen Mary, then a nice trip to Ports O’ Call for some tasty seafood. The next day, we spend all day at a beach, preferably Malibu and enjoy a day of relaxation on the sand. The next day, we visit Universal Studios for a day full of fun. You can’t visit without going to a theme park, so that’s the following day. To cap off the week, we attend a punk rock show at The Glass House in Pomona.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family has been a supporting factors since day 1. Whether it’s helping me with bookings or a simple word of encouragement, it makes the decision to pursue your dreams easier knowing they’ll never leave your side.
