We had the good fortune of connecting with Johari Noelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Johari, what role has risk played in your life or career?
More often, I see the good side of taking a risk. I feel as artists, our careers are a reflection of our hard work, our story and the amount of chances we take on ourselves on the journey . You never stop learning or taking risks. Risk taking has played a major role in my career, whether it’s a live performance, being on tv, or everytime I’m auditioning as a singer or actress, I’ve put myself out there and surrendered to the endless possibility of outcomes. So far, It’s taught me a lot, it’s made me stronger, created new relationships within the industry and opened doors to other great opportunities that I could have never imagined and couldn’t be more grateful for.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a singer & songwriter Born and Raised on the SouthSide of Chicago. I started pursuing a professional career as an artist 4 years ago, I made my first EP “Things You Can’t Say Out Loud” (TYCSOL) in 2019. It was a huge accomplishment for me to piece a concept together with great songs and ideas, It was featured on Billboard, Refinery 29, Chicago Reader, Chicago Tribune and more. My team and I did a ton of shows that year including a release show to celebrate the drop. That was my first Sold out show with friends, family and peers coming to see and support me, It was a moment I was truly proud of. Since then I have released 4 singles, a quarantine collaborative song featuring the Matt Jones Orchestra called “Time” (2020), My first single and video of this year “Get Free” (2021), and a 2 song EP “Games Forever/Grey” (2021). As an artist, there are so many challenges that you can run into, I have learned to lean into my resources when I am faced with tough challenges. I used to try to handle it all on my own but it became very difficult to manage certain relationships and contractual agreements, Having people to step in and help in that way is important, it keeps things transparent and flowing smoothly. I have learned more than anything to trust my gut, my own intuition. I think it’s easy to look at certain opportunities or people in certain places and think that those things hold more value over anything you might think or feel but the truth is, you know deep down what is best for you and what’s not. Many times, I would be presented with opportunities that I think are amazing or Once in a Life time because of the person or things tied to it and I always ended up disappointed after. I realized quickly that one half was placing people I looked up to on a pedestal and the other half was knowing deep down that It’s not the right opportunity for me and trying to make it work anyway. My brand and my story is love. I come from a world of different and adverse experiences but at my core, I do it from Love and I just want people that listen to me to feel that.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Castaway in Burbank, The food is good but the views are incredible. I love to hang out by the water so we would definitely hit the PCH, and if that feels like a mission, you can never go wrong with a hike at Fryman Canyon in Studio City. I also always take my friends and family to see the Production studio tours, it is amazing to see how some of our favorite shows and movies are created.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Between My manager Jim M. and My family back home in Chicago, there has been abundant support and love in my life and career. Even when my risk taking scares them some times, they are there for me, I can call and ask them for guidance on any and everything. I wanna give them the biggest shoutout. I love you all so much. I’m truly grateful for you all.
