We had the good fortune of connecting with John Joseph — and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John Joseph, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Being a social media influencer is all about taking risks. If it weren’t for risk, I wouldn’t have over 300,000 followers and over 35 million views and counting. My plan in life wasn’t to be an influencer. I have always been a singer/songwriter first and all of that changed in mid August when I decided to take a risk and upload a video talking about an old hollywood scandal involving Debbie Reynolds and Elizabeth Taylor. I was told by multiple people to not upload the video as it was “old news” and I listened to my gut and took the risk anyway… It seems to have worked in my favor as I only had 160 followers when I uploaded the video. I now take risks everyday by uploading nostalgia based videos about your favorite celebrities.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a singer, actor and social media influencer mostly known for the content I create on the app TikTok. Like I said before, my plan was never to be a social media influencer. I am a singer who has had success performing at iconic venues like the Whisky A Go Go, The Anaheim Convention Center and at the STAPLES Center and even opened for artists like Willson Phillips and The Association… I was on track to growing my singing career even more in 2020… I had sold out my first solo concert and even booked a show opening up for disco legends “The Villiage People” but things took a turn when Covid hit and all of my plans for music and acting took a backseat. Struggling to get my mind off the things I wasn’t able to do while I social distanced at home, I turned to the app TikTok as an outlet to express my creativity. Nothing was going viral so I made myself one last promise. I would upload 2 more videos and if they didn’t do well I would stop uploading content. Lucky for me it seems life was about to change. I decided to take a new approach, uploading one minute documentary style videos about old hollywood scandals and pop culture facts… Since my first viral video on August 13th, I have gone from 160 followers to over 300,000. Over 7 million combined likes and over 35 million views. It has been hard to navigate all of the success in a short amount of time but I am loving it because I am introducing a whole new audience to some of the most iconic moments and stories in pop culture history. The one thing I have learned above all is the relationship with your audience is crucial. Most of my videos are created because I listen to what my followers want. As long as they are happy, I am happy and we have built such an amazing relationship in this short amount of time. I wouldn’t change it for the world. I just want people to know that my page and content are created to be an escape for daily life and that it is a safe place where people of all walks of life can come and get their mind off of any hardships they may be going through. I hope that my content I have created will reintroduce some of the most beloved figures in Hollywood to a new generation and also reintroduce stars who you may find a newfound respect for after coming to my page. My motto is “if i can do it, so can you.” And I hope that my success can inspire people to chase after their goals and dreams. I believe in you!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot in the city is Hollywood! Whenever I have friends come in from out of town and they want the “LA experience” I would start with a morning hike at Runyon Canyon. After that we could go get lunch at Toast and enjoy some delicious food before heading over to Hollywood Blvd where we could go find their favorite celebrities’ stars on the walk of fame and then go see a movie at the El Capitan or an outdoor screening at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery! I think that Hollywood is such an incredible city filmed with so much history and such excitement!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate this shoutout to my amazing followers on TikTok who literally changed my life. I am forever grateful for each and every one of you and am so excited for the amazing community we are creating.
