We had the good fortune of connecting with Johnny Nasty Boots and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Johnny, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
In my opinion, one of the things that surprises me the most, that I think people are unaware of, is that the process of getting a song from being an idea in my head, or any artist’s head, to being heard on your phone, is so long and complex. There’s so much work involved — from writing, making arrangements, practicing, recording, mixing, mastering, public relations, etc. It’s such a process, and today with the expectations of constant, quality, content creation the actual art of making the music, and the meaning of it, has really been underestimated. That’s why I’m always a huge promoter of listening to any song on the best headphones or speakers I have — people, multiple people, likely spent days up until 3 am getting this out to be heard, so I want to be able to show them gratitude in that way. Your soul is going to thank you if you do it!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I consider myself to be highly honest of everything I do — I am very critical of every detail in my work, and it is a reflection of my own, sincere, expression. When you hear it, you hear every note exactly as I wanted it to. The work I have already released, and the music I am releasing soon, reflects that, and I’m incredibly proud of that.

The thing that got me where I am today, more than anything else, has honestly been my love for music. Without the love and passion for what I do, there is no way I would have kept pushing through the challenge of being a musician. As a musician, you have to struggle with so many unique things. Being in Mexico City, there are a lot of challenges and limitations that people in other cities might not face. Moving to Los Angeles and starting from scratch again two years ago was a huge challenge, but has been so key and instrumental in my own growth, professionally and personally.

To me, the biggest lesson I have learned is to never stop working, pushing, and believing in myself, no matter how gray the future may look. That, and moving to LA — if I could go back in time, I would tell myself to move to LA immediately!

I want people to hear Johnny Nasty Boots more than to know, but if I have to put in words one thing to know, I want the world to know that rock and roll is not dead!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man, I love LA! I have so many different spots that I love to hang in the area or go out to eat. I would say that my favorite spot is the Rainbow Bar & Grill. There’s something so special about that place and the people that are there; they have been making us feel so at home, which is why that space takes my top spot! For venues and live music, I love Good Times at Davey Waynes, the Whisky a Go Go, and the Viper Room — all so iconic! Harvard and Stone is a great spot, too. Grandmaster Recorders is a really fun, somewhat upscale, spot with amazing food.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would first like to thank Trace Devai for the recommendation and putting me in contact with you guys, and I would like to thank everybody that is taking their time to read this and learn a little bit more about Johnny Nasty Boots!
