Meet Jolina Jasmine: Dancer & Drag Entertainer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jolina Jasmine and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jolina, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued an artistic career because I’ve been a super creative person my entire life. Ever since I was younger, I remember being fully invested in anything where I was able to create. I would put together my own Halloween costumes, I would paint pictures, and would make my own songs complete with my own dances. All of the little details mattered. As I grew older, I realized that creating my own art in any sense was something I truly loved to do.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from most is my range of performance styles. I find many drag entertainers have one thing that they are absolutely amazing in, whether it’s looking stunning, or being a dancer, or being funny, etc. I believe I encapsulate all of those things which in turn makes me a very universal performer that can adapt to any audience. Where am I today is a product of years of hard work filled with making connections, long nights up sewing costumes, traveling up and down the east coast, and really trying to promote myself as much as possible. It definitely wasn’t easy, but success rarely ever is. Along the way, I’ve learn the being humble is the best thing you can do, because the same people you meet on the way up are going to be the same people you see on the way down. All in all, I want people to know that I’m a hard worker and I truly love what I do.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Let’s pretend this was all pre-pandemic. I’d take them to my hometown of Asbury Park, New Jersey. My resident nightclub, Paradise, is located there. Paradise is truly my second home. It’s a beautiful beach side nightclub with 6 bars, 2 dance rooms, state of the art sound systems and lighting, an outdoor pool, and amazing staff, and a hotel attached to it so you never even have to leave the property. It’s right across from the beach so you can wake up with a beautiful view of the ocean. If you ever leave the establishment, it’s right in the center of an LGBTQ+ friendly city filled with restaurants, museums, bars, arcades, and many fun things to do all within a walking distance. Oh, and did I mention we’re right on the beach? It’s my favorite place in the world.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom absolutely deserves a shout out. She has always supported me in my art, no matter what it was. Everything from buying me my first painting easel to being a model whenever I wanted to practice makeup, she has always been there to help and support me.
