We had the good fortune of connecting with Jon Sosis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jon, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want people to say I did good. Not well; good. This industry is full of garbage people and I’ve busted my ass to prove you can be successful and do right by people. At the end of the day, whether it’s for an individual talent or a big company, I just want my name to make people happy to have crossed paths with me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
After growing up in NYC and spending 14 years in the music industry, I moved across country to start a production studio and record label for a notorious comedy club. I think the biggest challenge was honestly starting 3 different media businesses from scratch (records, tv production, podcast network) with limited resources but a very big building filled with an insane amount of talent.

I’ve decided to leave my current job at the end of the summer, but excited to see what’s next and be able to continue working with the badass talent that I’ve crossed paths with.

You really are who you surround yourself with and I’m pretty lucky to be surrounded by some of the amazing people I have in my life on the personal side and the comics I’ve been able to work with that have become friends.

More than anything, I want people to know how much work the comics put into their projects and the best thing you can do for an artist is let them make art without interference. From some the specials I’ve produced (Sarah Tiana, Justin Martindale, Eleanor Kerrigan) to some of the podcasts (JUST SAYIN’, Slobs, Dogs of Browntown, This Week In Crime, Not Cool, etc.). These comics prep topics, stories, guests, art. It’s just amazing to see them have a vision, map it out and allow me to come in and help make it happen.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m still relatively new here so I typically end up in the same spots all the time, but even back home in NYC, my friends and I love people-watching so we tend to do the touristy spots and hikes. I’d have to take them to Smokehouse in Burbank for that cheesy garlic bread. You throw a rock out here and you’ll hit an actor and a good Mexican spot so that’s another thing we’d do. Mexican food, not throw rocks. Honestly, maybe throw rocks. Usually in self-defense. I think I’ve gone off the rails. Let’s move on.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to shoutout my friends and family back home who have kept me grounded out in LA where it’s taking me time to adjust. Then have to shout out my friends out here, some from before the move and have helped me get settled and others who I met, specifically the comics who didn’t need to be as cool as they were to the new guy.
