Meet Jonathan Molo | The Man in the Purple Suit

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Molo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonathan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Originally magic started as a hobby for me an introverted 10 year old. 30 years later I found my voice as a performer and guidance from a well known magician in our industry. He has shown me the possibilities of magic outside of just being a hobby. In 10 years I have built a magical business through social media and networking with non profits, charities, businesses and other performers in my industry.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Magic has given so much to this once 10 year old introverted Filipino kid. Watching David Copperfield vanish the Statue of Liberty on TV gave me a feeling of wonder that I wanted to share with others. I remember learning a new card trick from a book as a kid and rushing to show my mom and dad. My hands would shake uncontrollably out of nervousness because I was afraid that I would botch the trick. Regardless my parents continued to encourage me. When I did build enough confidence to perform the magic trick right my parents had an awe inspired look on their faces that became addicting. Being an introverted child and being able to illicit that type of emotion and reaction felt empowering. As the years passed with my journey in magic the tricks became less of a self empowering thing and more of inspiring and empowering others. At the end I have learned Magic isn’t about the tricks themselves. They’re tools to connect with others and hopefully inspire people to share their own magic.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Besides Magic my second love is food and the Los Angeles area is full of magical foodie adventures. During the week we would visit the staples like In n Out, Tommy’s, and Pinks. I also love Mexican food and just about every corner there is either a taco truck or a mom and pop own restaurant. Finally where Magic meets food my second home the world famous Magic Castle. If you’re unfamiliar with this magical place this is the home of the Academy of Magical Arts. It’s a private club for their members and their guests. Every night you can have dinner, drinks and catch a show from the best magicians in the industry.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My 3 sons Sebastian, Lennon and Asher are my biggest why. They’re the reason why I push and grind to be the best I can be as a magician and a person. Everyday I work to inspire them through my actions and show them that you can be anything you want to be even a magician.
