We had the good fortune of connecting with Denise Kimani and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Denise, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Living out my passion & purpose in life… More freedom & flexibility to choose my working hours,
Choosing my own clients & type of projects,
Unlimited salary/earning potential,
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Denise Kimani Designs is a full-service interior design firm based in Orange County that focuses on residential and commercial remodeling. During each phase of the process from budgeting and sourcing materials to the final installation, the entire process is handled effectively and efficiently.
Denise’s passion for interior design originated from studying ancient architecture and history at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her passion was accentuated while living and teaching in Florence, Italy. The exposure to a plethora of classical architecture and fine arts increased her admiration and desire to create beautiful timeless environments that people would enjoy for many years. Her ability to blend old world styles with modern lifestyles is one area that sets her apart from other designers.
Throughout her career, Denise has demonstrated passion, innovation, and exceptional clientele rapport. She is a Certified Interior Designer in California and holds degrees in Interior Design and Art History & Architecture. She is also an active member with ASID and IIDA. She regularly attends industry events for professional development and to stay up-to-date with the latest residential and commercial décor trends.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Santa Monica Promenade & Beaches The Getty Museum
Malibu beaches, shopping, spa day
The Biltmore Hotel in LA for its classic, old world charm
The W Hotel in Hollywood for its modern glam style
Le Petit Belvedere – French dining at its finest
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Nicole Ospina – co-founder of MOD Design has faithfully mentored me over the years. She has a wealth of knowledge & has shared her wisdom in how to navigate projects with poise & professionalism.
Renee Kubiak & Charlene Reed – faculty directors for Interior Design at Orange Coast College. As an alumnus, maintaining relationships with these women has created opportunities & connections to various design firms. Through networking they have introduced me to fellow interior designers, industry partners & accredited associations such as IIDA & ASID.
