We had the good fortune of connecting with Melon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melon, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My background story is actually kind of funny.
I have always loved to draw. When I was little, my friends will gather around me, give me topics and watch me draw. In college, when I was going through a breakup, I decided to post some panels online about my feelings and surprisingly got good feedback. People relate to my content. Since then, I have been constantly creating works expressing myself, collaborating with amazing people, and sharing emotions!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been working as a graphic designer for 2 years before creating Melon and coming to NYC. I had worked (and still am) on various styles and projects, including web design, game design, and branding. During this period of time, I searched for my own style as an artist and tried to figure out what I wanted to do with my career. The most difficult part is to get over with imposter syndrome and have faith in myself. What I would really like is to bring the essence of humor into people’s daily lives and positivity to online environments!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Because of the pandemic, I don’t really go out that much. I try to find local restaurants in Bed-Stuy within walking distance of my place. I would probably take my friend to For All Things Good for some Mexican breakfast and then hang out in prospect or central park. if she/he is not from the city, I would take them to Williamsburg or Union/Washington Square in the afternoon to get a vibe of the area and perhaps a rooftop bar in Manhatten to end the day. There are so many places to hang out in NYC, Bushwick is an amazing place too!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This Shout out is dedicated to Ghost In The Machine for all the love and support. Thanks to Chih-Yuan Chang for recommending me <3
