Meet Jonno Hip Hop Artist | Rapper

We had the good fortune of meeting with the hip hop artist Jonno and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonno, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. My sound has been undeniably influenced by those that came before me. Atmosphere, Prof, Brother Ali. Minnesota Hip Hop has always had an eccentricity and uniqueness to it, and I wanted to make sure I went about my craft the same way. The sound isn’t flashy, and Minnesota never has been. It’s real, and the music often carries a certain life wisdom to it.
I very much relate to that. Any time I start the creative process, I want to give the listener something they can gravitate to. Something revitalizing. It’s hard living during the winter months up North, so if I can give my city a song that can get someone ready at 7:00 am on the way to a job they don’t like, and get them feeling good about themself, then that’s a win.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Getting to this point was not easy. No beating around the bush, there were times of immense doubt. You gotta ask yourself, do you really love this? Do you practice writing every day because you can’t help it? Because I’ll tell you right now, you won’t amount to anything by writing once every couple weeks. You’re better off finding a calling that’ll bring your most motivated version out. And that’s what this artwork does for me.
I would say my eccentricity is my calling card. In beat selection and delivery. Whether it’s due to lack of creativity or lack of confidence, many artists are afraid to try something. Instead, many opt to borrowing almost entirely from someone else’s style. Or they feel they have to fabricate a lifestyle because their’s isn’t interesting. Let me tell ya, if you just starting making things up, there’s plenty of artists already doing that, so you’re not gonna sound any different from them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In LA, we’re gonna get some nice living in. I’m taking you to the Getty, because that place is otherworldly. You’ll never find a never place like it. We’re 1000% doing a day trip to Catalina. Crystal clear waters, vibes, and some day drinking. That’s a dangerous combo.
We’re gonna go up to Malibu, see the Getty Villa, and have a bite by the beach. And a Dodgers game of course, you gotta go at least once
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to my buddy William Pierre. He’s the CEO of Heart of a Lion management. Dude has been boosting my ego on my music, and giving me the tools to succeed and build a proper lane for myself as an independent artist. This is one of the hardest working guys in the industry. The guy is never not in go-mode. Going about things the right way. Being good to people, fostering lasting relationships, and always looking for improvement in himself. That’ll take you far
