We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonny Tran and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jonny, what do you attribute your success to?
When it comes to the success behind the content and social media work I do, it’s hard to chalk it up to one factor. So many different variables and habits have contributed to and led me to where I am now. It’s the people I’ve met, the events I’ve been I’ve been a part of, and even the luck I’ve had. However, the one factor I feel has carried me the furthest is consistency.

Consistency is key because it drives my decisions and mindset. It’s the little choices you make every day and the gradual growth that amounts to huge progress over time. I don’t believe progress is made in giant leaps, but rather in small steps. This means choosing to show up every day and making that choice to continue on your journey.

Whether it’s taking one step back, or taking two forward, it’s following that path again and again even when you don’t feel like it’s going anywhere.

Every day I choose to be consistent by taking little steps. Progress shouldn’t always be determined by the huge milestones, because you don’t get to see the journey when you only look at the end result. Maybe you shot for the stars and didn’t make it. But did you realize that you might be able to land on the moon along the way?

Those little breakthroughs you create every day are what define consistency. Practicing that dance move, reading a few pages of that book, watching that 5-minute editing tutorial. These are small low commitment actions that compound when done every day. And after weeks, months, even a year of this, you’ll see huge leaps of progress.

This even applies to your thinking as well. Choosing to reframe your mind to a more positive outlook, or to speak kinder to yourself, can set you up for better success in your future. That 1-minute affirmation of feeling worthy every day can transform you to actually knowing that you are worthy. These consistent choices make massive differences.

However, consistency can work against you as well if you aren’t mindful of it. Consistently talking down on yourself, or choosing to put off that work until the next day can also add up and compound to take a heavier toll on you. So the way you choose to be consistent has to be carefully considered.

To revise what I said then, the greatest reason for my success would have to be choosing to be mindfully consistent in the way I show up every day. It’s the fact that I choose to be consistent in ways that uplift myself which is why I’ve been able to accrue the success I have today.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m primarily a content creator and influencer on Tiktok and Instagram. I specialize in transitions and edits that showcase my fashion sense and danceability. I got to where I am through constant trial and error, as well as a lot of experimentation. I definitely never thought it was easy, but what kept me going was how fun it was to me, and how gratifying it was to create content that I loved.

I’d say the biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way is that as long as you have a will to make it happen, it’s completely possible. If you can earnestly work hard for it and strive for your dreams, you can accomplish them. The reason I even pursue this career is to help prove to my family and friends that they can do it too, and that life is too short to not pursue the things you love.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area, I would make sure there’s a full day devoted to Disneyland and a full day devoted to Universal Studios. I’m a sucker for amusement parks, and I definitely believe I make those experiences even more fun for my friends. Aside from that, I would have to take them to my favorite restaurants including Sugarfish, Nobu, Yupdduk, Brodards, and more. Of course I can’t forget boba spots such as Orobae, 7 Leaves, and more. Lastly, I would take them to one of the beaches for a bonfire, and a couple shopping areas such as The Grove.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my closest friends. They’re the ones I know I can go to in my times of need and when I need affirmation, to rant, or just someone to listen to. I wouldn’t be here without the support of my friends.
