We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Brett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my business BRETT / CREATIVE to have a name/place to show people my work. I wasn’t comfortable at the time using my full name as a business and I didn’t want to limit my capabilities by saying “Jordan Ashley Brett Photography” which would insist that I am just a photographer and I can do a lot more than that.

So after coming up with the name, I got straight to work on building my website. I neglect my social media more than I should but still to this day, I use my website as a reference and constantly update it to keep it current and modern.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe everyone has their own creative spark and some people are fortunate enough to find tools to help them express that creativity. In my case, it’s a camera. I’d like to think that what sets me apart from others is actually me because I am a full representation of my work and I do not put anything out there that I am not 100% satisfied with, doesn’t matter how long it takes to complete.
I am proud of my mother back home and how brave she is. That alone gives me enough energy to keep grafting.

It definitely was not easy to get to where I am today and it’s still not going to be easy for a while due to circumstances but it’s all perspective. Nothing in life worth having comes easy and an easy life option for me would be to go back home to London, but I am determined to succeed and achieve certain accolades that I haven’t yet achieved whilst I’ve been here in Los Angeles.
My mental health is my strongest asset and I am very grounded. I’ve learned most importantly to believe in myself which was something I forgot to do for a while.

At this time, I’d like to use my photography and love for nature to spread important messages about our planet!
Until I find my next tool which will unlock the next set of creative skills…

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Lots to see and do to show some old friends from home the new version of Los Angeles. I’ve recently discovered Yosemite for camping and would highly recommend that for a weekend of epicness! The desert is an awesome place too and I’ve got some good recs for areas in Palm Springs, to Palm Desert, to Joshua Tree. Back in LA, a few must-have restaurants would be, jon & vinnys, robertas pizza, kazunori… I’m not giving away all my gems 🙂

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes to my family who has my back through in and throughout! My mother’s bravery is so encouraging and she doesn’t even realize it.
My brother back home taught me so much about life and love that I could only comprehend when I moved out here away from him so I thank him and Alex for that.
And shoutout to my big bro, he’s my biggest inspiration, and wouldn’t be here without him! He constantly pushes me to be the best I can be so a lot of my drive and determination comes from that.
