We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Corey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, why did you pursue a creative career?
To be honest I never really decided I’d pursue an artistic or creative career, it felt like it was born out of my natural abilities versus something I consciously chose to do. There was never a moment in my youth or young adulthood where I questioned whether this path was mine to walk on. I recognized from a young age that providing form to formless experiences was my intuitive language and talent. Today I do this through songwriting and Tarot – capturing these basal human feelings that are seemingly beyond language and making them palatable, tangible, workable.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I create music and interpret messages from the Universe into this physical reality – as I write that now I realize the latter half is meant to represent my Tarot practice, but it’s emblematic of what I do in both spaces. As a songwriter/performer/artist it is our job to capture feeling through sound, but how to do that if you do not deeply know yourself?

Music has been around since the onset of humanity as it is a form of expression that allows us to tap into the collective consciousness. Like when you hear your favorite song – its not just the catchy hook or melody that captivates you, it is the feeling of being understood, of hearing a piece of yourself that allows you to feel less alone. As a music artist and writer it is my aim to do just that – understand my human experience at such a deep level that I may articulate it through sound and connect with another. We share in the roots of our emotions, we grow from the same center point. The difference in our realities is how we choose to express, react or create from those emotions. So at our core we are all the same and my job is to capture those similarities through my lived experiences. The more present I can be to the circumstances in my life, the clearer the music sounds.

Tarot is a practice that speaks to this same truth. My focus as a reader lies in personal power – what do you have the power to change now? Where are you in control? How is your current perspective shaping your future? What reality do you wish to create for yourself and what can you focus on now to make it so?

It was definitely not easy to make a career out of either of these vocations! It takes so much patience and so much practice. I diligently work to hone my craft daily and the trick is to do so without focusing on the final outcome. To do the work for the sake of doing the work. A lot of what I do remains unseen, I rarely get immediate results. It took a lot of self confidence, self discipline and trust in myself to get to a position where it is now my career. Endless hours of songwriting, singing, producing, learning, stretching, growing, all of this goes unnoticed so perseverance and not needing constant validation are key.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I live in Venice so the beach is always calling when we have friends in town. My favorite spots in LA are the Huntington Rose Gardens, The Getty Villa, Topanga Canyon State Park, Farmer’s Markets – I love playing outside and taking advantage of all of our California sunshine. We’re still living in a pandemic world so what I would do now versus what I have done in the past is completely different. Luckily I love cooking, deeply obsessed with it actually so meals at home would be firing.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
O so many. My family first and foremost for supporting my career and encouraging me to play outside of the box. They never forced traditionalism on my career path and I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing today without that initial structure. My fiance, Robert Tulchin who is a dedicated creator himself. He is a master at taking ideas and manifesting them into the physical reality space and I can’t tell you how much I’ve learned from observing this quality in him. Jessica Corbin is an incredible coach and mentor of mine that really taught me how to sink into my body and trust myself wholly. RAC + Jeff Brodsky for the opportunities to write and create music with them, they truly helped me ascend to a new level in my career. Ryan Aicklen is an incredible producer and one of my writing partners, felt like I spent my entire career looking for a collaborator like him. Kathryn Davis provided amazing insight into the business of the music industry and how to remain balanced amongst the chaos. Jenae Lien for her patience with me as I began my Tarot journey, she is a dear friend and I’m not sure I would be practicing Tarot today if it weren’t for her. Everyone I’ve had the pleasure to session with and read for. My friends!! Wow would be lost without my chosen family, you know who you are.
