We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Knight and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
“Good things come to those who wait” I used to use this saying on particular things, but I think if you want something especially in business you have to go get it. Work your hardest and if you get knocked down you don’t wait around, you keep going until you’ve achieved what you wanted and more.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a photographer with quite a few years under my belt now, but I still consider myself to be a newbie compared to all the incredible humans in this industry that I look up to. One thing that I feel sets me apart is my editing. I hardly do retouching, but I love my bright and white colors that tends to have a warm undertone and gives you a nostalgic feeling. I’ve definitely had my fair share of struggles through out my career. I started doing full time photo work just under 4 years ago and before that I was always working a restaurant gig. I started doing wedding photography and really enjoyed it but realized I wanted to turn my attention towards music photography, I toured for many years, hardly making enough money to live and my home was basically a band wagon (not quite a bus but still had bunks). After exhausting myself for years doing that I was able to move to LA to focus on fashion. This has been my love and I think having so many different kinds of photography experience I was able to bring something new to the table with fashion and I’ve been so satisfied with this part of my life and career. Don’t get me wrong though, I am always taking on music and event gigs because I just have a passion for taking photos of people and making them smile and feel good about themselves in any scenario.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of the first places I take people when they visit me is Montys for a burger. It’s my favorite fast food vegan spot, I’m drooling thinking about it. I think Malibu beaches are up there on the top of my list because it’s obviously a gorgeous spot with incredible sunsets and you can find so many spots that are private and feels like you have the whole beach to yourself. Break Room 86 was my go to night out, the karaoke and speak easy vibe mixed with the disco ball dance floor is a recipe for a good time. Big fan of fishing so if my visitor likes the same thing, I’m heading out to Lake Castaic in the morning to spend the day on a beautiful lake with amazing views only 30 minutes north of LA. I live nearby the Beachwood cafe and it’s my favorite brunch spot. the food is scrumptious and you might see a celebrity or two while you’re dining.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have so many inspirations and they’re growing by the day! I learned so much from YouTube when I first started out, I didn’t go to school so being self taught, most of my craft I learned from experience and the internet. I owe a lot of my editing ways and love for warm photos from a girl I admire in the wedding photography world, India Earl. I loved how she was always so personable and seemed to be so easy to be around. I knew that if I wanted to make a great photo I needed to make my subject comfortable in front of my lens and I think she helped me learn that skill just through videos and social media. I really wouldn’t be where I am today without my partner, he’s a creative himself and has really pushed me to be the best I can be. He has supported me from the moment I moved to Los Angeles and taught me how to be a fearless leader and assertive when I need to be. Some incredible examples that inspire me everyday to get creative and come up with concepts for my shoots: Zhong Lin, Ben Sasso, and Rob Woodcox are SO SO inspiring!
