Meet Jordan Rice | Licensed Esthetician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Rice and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Like all of us, my background and upbringing has played a huge role in who I am today. I was originally born in the Central Valley of California but ended up moving over 30 times before age 18. While moving around so much was extremely difficult as a kid, it’s also something I’m incredibly grateful for because it gave me the privilege to see and experience a variety of communities and cultures around the US which I believe helped form me into a very resilient and compassionate person. One of the biggest things that all of those moves taught me is that, no matter where we come from, we all seek the same thing and that is to experience love and understanding. So, whether it’s in my personal life or business, my goal is to make someone feel more loved and understood than they did before we interacted. It’s such a gift to be in a client-based business where I have the opportunity to get to know people from all walks of life and hear their stories. At the heart of all that I do in my career, I hope to instill in each client the desire to love themselves more wholly and appreciate their unique beauty both inside and out – because we all have a wild story that’s shaped us into exactly who we’re supposed to be in this world.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Since I was about 10, I knew I wanted to be an esthetician but it’s taken a full decade of being licensed to find the area within this industry that I’m truly excited to be in and be known for.
In these 10 years of being licensed, I’ve worked as a body waxer, makeup artist, trainer and facialist. That being said, from using and experimenting with countless products and working in a variety of environments I’ve learned a very important lesson: Stay true to who you are and what inspires you – no matter how outside of the box or “different” it may be. When you stick to your guns and stay focused on the things you’re truly inspired by, it will bring you the most joy and fulfillment in your career which is something I’m so happy to say that I feel each day.
I now specialize in offering luxe brow services and clean skincare services, all of which highlight the unique beauty and personal lifestyle of my clients. When a client comes in for a service, I hope for them to feel that celebration of themselves – whether it’s their amazing little facial scar or the way their little fluffy hairs grow at the front of an eyebrow…I want to celebrate those unique characteristics that others may deem as imperfections and want my clients to see themselves in that same beautiful light. Whatever I create in my career, I hope for it all to be seen as being real, honest and filled with a lot of love and passion.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh I love this!
If a friend were visiting, in true esthetician form, I would plan a full weekend of self-care! Also a big foodie over here…so get ready for food + drink recommendations.
We would start the day with a yoga class at Harmony House in Pismo Beach (Kelly I adore you and the yoga community you’ve built!) and would then go for a long brunch next door at Honeymoon Cafe (sunrise tacos are my personal fave). After brunch, massages at Hotel SLO are a must – to this day I’ve never experienced a more relaxing massage. After that, get a little pick-me-up coffee at Field Day in the sunshine (Randy and Callie: you two inspire with how you’ve built your business). After coffee, head home and clean up to head over to Granada in downtown San Luis Obispo for the best appetizers and wine/cocktail selection.
The next day, beach walk in Avila with coffee and drive into San Luis Obispo for lunch at Petra followed by shopping downtown! Personal favorites: Len Collective, Wildflower and Ah Louis! Afterwards, a rooftop cocktail at Hotel SLO and stick around for live music!
We live in the most amazing little town and I’m so happy to have settled here as an adult. You’ll always be able to find wonderful food and a place to sit with friends and family for hours catching up over a glass of local wine.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be here today without the love and guidance of my family.
To my mom and dad: I can’t thank you enough for the endless support and belief that you’ve always given me. With each new twist and turn in my career, which there have been many of, you are a constant source of love and encouragement. I love you both so dearly and wouldn’t be the woman I am today without you.
To my son Oliver: you saved me and brought me back to life the moment you were born three years ago. Your joy and zest for each new day is my fire that pushes me to be a better woman today than I was yesterday. You will never fully grasp the love that I have for you.
To my partner Oliver (yes, his name is Oliver too and yes…it’s an even better story than you think haha): You’ve shown me what love is and you’ve taught me what it means to truly live life. On the days I wake up with “imposter syndrome” (anyone else?), you meet me with more encouragement than I could ever hope for and truly make me believe I can do absolutely anything that I set my mind to. Thank you for giving me the sweetest love and for helping me find my bravery and strength. I love you forever.
To my big brother Blake who always takes my phone call, no matter how busy his day is…I love and admire you so much. Your work ethic and drive has been a constant source of inspiration to me and always will be. Thank you for being the most incredible example of what it means to work hard and be kind to others. I couldn’t have asked for a more amazing big brother.
