Meet Jordan Rivers | Singer-Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Rivers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Music was always my voice when I didn’t have the words to express myself. My guitar sometimes felt like the only thing that could understand my ‘Complicated Soul’. But to pursue it professionally always seemed like an unreachable dream. Until I finally took the risk and started playing live in bars and galleries across Los Angeles back in 2015. I saw that the audience connected to my words, my melodies, my songs. Knowing that I could share my story, inspire others to do the same, and actually make a career out of it, well I guess there was no going back after that! So it’s been a journey, and still is, but this is my dream and I’m not giving up on it!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is Jordan Rivers I am an LA native and the founder and frontwoman of the band Rivers And Suns. I started with just a solo project, simply entitled Rivers back in 2015, after a few years living on the beaches of Mexico. I was a self-taught musician who wanted to share the story of my heartbreaks and adventures abroad. I started playing in coffee shops and art galleries, upon returning to LA, just me and my guitar, and I fell in love with sharing my songs and the connections I would feel with the audience. I was determined to make it happen, play on bigger stages, reach bigger audiences. So I acted as my own manager, under the pseudonym of my roommate Maureen, but it worked. Within months I was playing bigger venues, had put a band together, and was recording my first single. If you put your mind to something you truly can make anything happen, especially when that thing is what you are truly meant to do. It didn’t just happen in a snap of a finger, and it definitely hasn’t always been easy, but I just chose to never give up. A couple of years back, I began dreaming about recording in Europe, something always drew me to that place, and of course, my slight addiction to travel helped form that dream too. But after a few years of thinking of doing it, I did, although I didn’t need my pseudonym to help me with this one. I am currently In Barcelona, Spain recording my second EP and I can’t wait to share it with you all!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well being born and raised in Malibu, I would say you must have at least a day or two to explore the many gorgeous beaches and hikes of the Bu! Solstice Canyon is definitely my favorite hike and Broad beach for a beautiful beach day. Oh, and sunset at Big Dume! And for all the joys of the city, it’s all about Los Feliz for me! Coffee and lunch at Trails Cafe in Griffith Park after your hike up to the Observatory and wine and cheese at Figaro in the evening!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Thank you to John Barnes and Julien Baptiste for seeing something in my music before I could even see it. My first producers who helped me gain the confidence to truly break out of my shell and dig deep into all that I was capable of musically. The love and support of my beautiful friend Tessa, who nearly never missed a show. My mentor Thomas Amelio who helped me to stay focused on my musical journey, even in these complicated times. To the most badass bass player in Los Angeles, Leanne Bowes for giving it her all at every show. God, I miss playing up there with you! And to every musician out there that is pursuing their dream, we all keep each other going!
