We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Rock and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I noticed there was not a lot of representation of people who looked like me and that the general market lacked creativity. Everything that I saw in marketing and advertising in my field was overly polished into an image that wasn’t real and that’s why most of these brands are not seeing success in connecting to their consumer because they aren’t representing them in the media.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started Get Rock’d Media to approach media and the approach to how a brand represents themselves differently. It certainly was not something that happened overnight I built myself up over the course of several years and building experience across several different roles. I’ve worked my way up the chain of command into high level positions navigating projects within major companies such as Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman to assisting in opening the first CBD store in Los Angeles and expanding them into 3 doors in 16 months. I took all of that experience and decided to focus on building up the creative side of marketing versus the traditional lifestyle shoot most companies decide to fill in the proverbial picture frame of representation with. Get Rock’d Media is here to flip marketing from selling a dream to selling reality!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well we would start with one of my favorite wellness spaces in L.A. Josephine and Billies the first black female owned cannabis consumption space in L.A. then we would grab lunch at my two cents L.A. in mid city. The broad is a very fun interesting space in dtla it’s also free to attend not far from the little easy for lunch the last bookstore for a great photo opp and little damage for dessert of course!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am a firm believer in community over competition without my community I would not be here. I took a shot and reached out to a now friend Tess Melody founder of @doseofsaucy to create content for her from there everything took off overnight, before I knew it our friend Haejin @bigbadwolfsf got my work posted on a major account and more eyes were on me. From there I’ve had so many dope opportunities and I could not thank these two women enough along with my amazing mentor Mary Pryor @iamarypryor co founder of @cannaclusive for giving me all of the guidance and support to continue to grow in a new industry. And I am forever thankful to the many women, men and gender non conforming individuals of my community that often uplift me and keep me going without one another we cannot continue to progress to make this world and industry a better place.
