We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Blanco and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joseph, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’ve always enjoyed empowering people to become the best versions of themselves and education plays such a vital role in that. However, I think our education system is incredibly backwards. I came out of grad school with a total of $170,000 worth of debt and that was with me going to public universities for both undergrad (UCLA where I received a substantial scholarship) and grad school. Now thankfully, I was able to get an amazing job right after, but, I know most people aren’t as fortune and are then just buried in debt for decades. And for what? Are they actually even using much of what they learned in school? Nope, because most of what you learn is theory-based so they aren’t even training you properly for the jobs of today which seems crazy given how much they are charging.

So, I decided to fix this problem by creating JobPrepped which is a Digital Marketing Bootcamp that focuses on practical step-by-step guidance so that you can, in a much much more affordable way, start a career/advance your career in digital marketing or break off and start your own company or become a freelancer so you can work for yourself.

I focused on fixing this education problem within the Digital Marketing space not just because I have a ton of experience in this field, but because I truly feel it’s one of the most liberating things a person can learn. If you know digital marketing, then you truly can do whatever you want in life as you no longer need to rely on a 9-5 job as you now have what it takes to get clients on your own for those that want to be freelancers or you can start your own business based around a passion or hobbies that you have.

Traveling has always been a big part of my life and I’ve now helped thousands of people break free from the corporate world where they had very little autonomy and that are now able to live in beautiful places all around the world not answering to anyone. This has been by far the most rewarding feeling knowing that I played some small role in showing others how they too, with step-by-step instructions, can break away from a life they don’t love and live the life they’ve always dreamt of.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
JobPrepped is a Digital Marketing Bootcamp that gives 1-on-1 help from a former Fortune 500 Top-Level Marketing Executive while also giving immediate real world work experience so our customers can start/advance their careers much faster and/or break away from the corporate life and grow their own freelance or small business much faster.

What makes us so different is not only our focus on affordability for all, but the fact that we don’t focus on Marketing theory like pretty much every competitor of ours but rather that we are an actual training teaching you step-by-step how to succeed in all parts of growing companies, including what software you should use to accomplish these tasks. I think it’s awful at how many universities and bootcamps there are out there that charge thousands of dollars and then you leave having a general idea of how things work, but don’t actually know how to do the marketing yourself successfully. So, we literally show you everything in step-by-step format how it’s done.

From there, we are also the only Digital Marketing Bootcamp, to give our customers immediate real-world work experience. For those that want to get a marketing job, advance their career, or get freelance work, this is an incredibly important part of the program as getting the “right work experience” that companies want is sadly very hard as it can take years to get the opportunity to work in the areas you want which stunts so many people’s growth and potential. But, in my eyes, this is just what all education should be. No more theory. Let’s give people step-by-step actionable guidance so that they can immediately improve their lives rather than just getting them half way there by teaching them theory.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There’s this food truck in Alhambra on Atlantic right in front of the Ralph’s and they have the best Mulitas I’ve ever had. Definitely check them out for your lunch. From there, I’d probably recommend heading over to Griffith Park for a hike with the dogs. At night, head over to Grand Central as you’ll have tons of food options from local small businesses.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely Shark Tank. It’s so inspiring seeing all these people from modest backgrounds take that chance and chase something they really believe in. You don’t need a million dollars to break away from a life you don’t love. You just need a desire to chase happiness. If you have that, and are willing to learn, well, that’s all you need for success and to live the life you’ve always dreamt of.
