We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Tompkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joseph, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Despite being homeless and struggling with jobs, I found a way to help people through daily motivational messages on Facebook. As my following grew, I wanted to do more to change lives and started giving money out of my pocket to provide coats for kids in need. But it wasn’t enough, so I decided to create a t-shirt brand just to help with the out-of-pocket costs. And now, Black Success has grown beyond my wildest dreams – a true testament that with hard work, determination, and a passion to help others, anything is possible.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In 2016, I started the Black Success Association and it fills me with joy to see how much it has grown over the years. While we began as a clothing/non-profit organization, we have evolved into a global brand that not only gives back to the community but also hosts events that bring people together to network and build their own brands. Our book, “How to Turn Social Media Into Unlimited Income,” helps others start businesses from scratch and support their families. It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come, but we still have a lot more to accomplish. Our recent release of the fragrance “Remarkable” is just one example of how we continue to aspire for greatness.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Get ready for an unforgettable trip to downtown Detroit, the city’s shining jewel that has made a remarkable comeback! You’ll be blown away by the vibrant restaurant and bar scene that’s just waiting to be explored. And that’s not all – we’ll catch a Detroit Lions game, visit Little Caesars Arena to see the Pistons, and soak up the electric atmosphere at Campus Martius, the heart of the city. From ice skating to a giant Christmas tree, and mouth-watering food and drinks, there’s something for everyone in this vibrant hub of activity!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I highly recommend reading “Illogical” by Emmanuel Acho and “Battle Cry” by Jason Wilson. These books can help transform your life both internally and externally, and provide a fresh perspective on achieving your goals. They are truly a must-read!
