We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Vibes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think about risk as an opportunity to embark on something new, with the hopes of positive outcomes being the only result. Taking risks in my life/career has been the focal point for my journey. I’ve failed more times than succeeded but I’ve learn something new with each risk I took. In other words, each risk whether it was a win or loss still moved me forward to my goals.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart is performing and songwriting with the vibraphone in the mainstream music world. It has always been a dream of mine. To see it become a reality is very exciting and shocking to me. Because of the rarity of this instrument existing in the pop music world, I would have a lot of doubts pursuing this endeavor but I knew to never give up and keep going.
To get to where I am at now, it took a lot of process of elimination over a number of years. Literally, I tried everything (every genre, piece of advice, marketing strategy, etc) to see what would work. Most of the times, I would reach a dead end. Other times, I found avenues that worked but had to turn around because it didn’t align with my goals. Once I found the avenues that did align with my goals, I kept going.
The way I overcome challenges and learn lessons are based on one thing… happiness. Keeping my happiness at the forefront of my goals has been my priority. If I have to compromise my happiness for an opportunity, then I know it’s something I will refuse. That is easier said than done in the moment. However, each opportunity comes with a risk and as I stated before, it’s a win either way because of what I can learn from it.
I want the world to know that I’m here to share and spread that same happiness I spoke about in the previous paragraph.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a food, beach and chill guy. So the first place I’m going to take a friend is a restaurant. I eat all kinds of food and LA has everything.
To name a few places, I would take them to Met Her At A Bar on La Brea Ave or Bea Bea’s in Burbank for breakfast. For a quick snack, I like Rio Zonas Acai. For lunch, I can do anything from Pervian to Thai food ( ex. Pablito’s Pervian Kitchen, Spice Season Thai). Dinner could at Tu Madre in West Hollywood. I have a pretty wide food palette.
The beaches I like in or around LA are: Manhattan, Redondo, Malibu, Venice, Pacific Palisades, Laguna, etc.
Places I like to chill are : E.P & L.P Rooftop, The Sofitel Hotel, The W Hollywood, Sayer’s Club, It’s A School Night in Hollywood, etc.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I would like a give a shoutout to God. then all the people who I call my closest friends and family who been along my musical journey, the two music teachers that impacted my whole life, Mr. Wendell Hairston and Mr. John Locke, and the Marimba One team.
