We had the good fortune of connecting with Josephine Ting and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Josephine, what principle do you value most?
ALWAYS look at myself as a piece of floating, shapeless matter of a soul, and reflect honestly whether or not I’ve been a good one in the eyes of God, people who loves me, and myself!
This means taking away all my belongings, assets, achievements, my vessel of a body, especially my very self-loved muscular dancer legs…Just…The preferably warm and fuzzy soul called Josephine, and ask “Is Josephine a good soul? Is she loving? Is she kind? Is she honest and honorable? Has Josephine’s presence brought truthful and loving benefit to people she came into contact with?”
Why? Because the world is NOT about “me”. In the day and age of seemingly endless emphasis on the narcissistic “I”, we often make the mistake of focusing on the external image of ourselves, instead of focusing on building internal character.
“Jesus did not come into the world so that you could FEEL better. Jesus came into the world so that you could actually BE better.” – Pastor Jim Burgen of Flatirons Community Church
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an actor! People make videos of me on the big screen and I make videos on the small computer screen for YouTube to show people what it’s like to make videos for the big screen! Unless you stream the shows on your computer, then, technically it’s all small screen…hm…
What sets me apart from others? Oh dear…Last time I mentioned I love Jesus and I have small ears…I guess I can also tell you that I have brick feet. They are just really flat and rectangular for some reason. It doesn’t seem to affect my abilities to dance and walk in heels though! So, I guess you can say that MY FEET DEFIES PHYSICS! BAM!
I am most proud of and excited about every individual interaction I get to have with my viewers through the platform of YouTube, from answering their questions, to hearing their stories, and learning their flaming heart in pursuing their dreams…There are so many inspiring brave souls out there, and sometimes all they need are some answers, and perhaps some cookies, to get the little push to become the next Meryl Streep!
I got to where I am today professionally from just living like there’s no tomorrow! I am not a very good driver, and I eat too much sugar, so it’s a very relevant advice for myself you see!
I hate poop. I don’t like seeing poop, I don’t like smelling poop, and God knows I would explode if I touch poop, let alone another human being’s poop. (There is a point somewhere I promise.) In order to become an actor, I had to get a job in a restaurant in order to have a flexible schedule for auditions. I was a guest service for some time, and they never wrote it in the contract, but I was required to serve and protect the woman’s bathroom.
One day, somehow, a customer defecated in a way that smeared her poop all over and along the toilet bowls. I still have not figured out the physics of such feat to this day. What I can tell you is that at that very moment, I thought about the Oscar. I thought about the speech I am going to give about loving your neighbor as you love yourself. I thought about perhaps not living tomorrow and whether I would feel okay with myself allowing another human being to witness such horrifying scene. I thought about whether or not Jesus, if in my place, would fulfil the role of this job, of keeping woman’s washroom clean and dandy, and of course, He would.
Once you wipe a complete stranger’s poop, most things else seem like a breeze.
So, want to start acting? Do it! Want to start a YouTube channel? Do it! Want to learn different languages? Do it! Why not? What’s the worst that could happen? Life is so much easier to live when you have the mindset that you may not have a tomorrow! And truthfully, you may not!
If you want free resources and materials to further understand the acting industry and how to become an actor, feel free to jump on my channel, watch the videos, and send me questions!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
SANTA MONICA! You really can’t go wrong with the beautiful streets, abundance of cool restaurants, unique bars, shopping, street performers, and THE BEACH! Other than that, LA truly is a fascinating place with unique clusters of cities and culture. I definitely suggest a day to just drive around and experience everywhere (Hollywood, Culver City, Venice Beach…etc) to find what vibes with you most! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
AL MIRO! MY ACTING COACH WITH THE BODY CARVED BY THE GREEK GODS….Ahem…uh…if you all go check out his Instagram @thealmiro, you’ll get what I mean. This man made me believe in celeries. I hated celeries.
Al was my acting coach back when I started, and for me, a mentor who truly pushed me further into my acting journey. There is NO HIDING from Al. You want to fake an emotion and not give a scene your all because you’re scared? Nuh uh, he will stare you down into your soul and whisper it out of you, like some animal whisperer of acting…
Oh yes, Al made me cry. Al made me cry a lot.
And yet, Al is safe. Al made me grow as an actress in ways I never thought possible and helped me find my voice.
So yeah, go check out his half naked photos would ya?
