We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh FIELDS and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Josh, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After college I started working occasionally as a production assistant (PA) while my main source of income was waiting tables. At that time I was only getting one gig a month, my ultimate goal was to direct and I could see that was going to be a huge mountain to climb that would take a long time. After realizing that I thought it would be a better route to start my own small production company where I essentially started as a director among just about every other role from producer to DP to editor, you name it. I was able to learn while directing from day one slowly expanding my network and finding good crew, then the goal just became for my company to climb the ladder rather than my self alone.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
To be honest we’re still looking for that thing that truly sets us apart from others, but when I really think about it, it’s quality. I feel that in our area at our level we are producing the best content. I’m always excited when I get to work with an artist that I grew up listening to, people like Lil Jon, E-40, and Too $hort. It definitely hasn’t been easy to get to the point I’m at, it’s taken countless sleepless nights, constant investments, personal sacrifices, and no days off for weeks at a time. I just had full confidence on getting to where I’m going which made getting past challenges easier, it’s just all part of the process. My brand and my story is still being written so we’ll just see what unfolds.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
To be honest since I moved back to the Bay I haven’t been doing much else, but working so I’d be a terrible tour guide. Now if we were talking when I lived in San Diego we would have an amazing week.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife was my biggest supporter. In the past I had been encouraged by others to set a date to essentially give up by and just settle for a 9-5. My wife Jaime always had my back in this dream and never made me feel like my goals were unreachable. I can honestly say that without her I would not have my own successful production company, I would have definitely given up the dream and been working a job that I hate.
