We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Logan Tangney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josh, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
These are my two favorite quotes:

1. “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.”
2. “Work hard enough and it starts to look like talent.”

These quotes sum up how I’ve built my career from the ground up. It started for me on the basketball court as a kid. I was never the most talented but realized that if I was willing to work harder than everybody else, then I could achieve success.

Fast forward to today and I have managed Platinum Selling Artists (Andy Grammer, Rachel Platten), I own a Booking Agency (The Concert Agency), I’m a CMT & CCMA nominated songwriter & artist, and I consult/coach for many great artists focusing on Fan Building & Monetization, Live Show Booking, DSP Playlisting & Algorithms, Sync Licensing and more.

These quotes serve as constant reminders that success isn’t handed out on a silver platter; it’s earned through hard work, determination and relentlessness.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My story starts back in my hometown in upstate NY, where I grew up with Andy Grammer, writing songs and playing basketball. While Andy pursued his path as an artist, I went off to business school, laying the groundwork for what would become my multifaceted career.

After graduating, my uncle’s friend was looking for help at his Talent Agency outside of NYC so I took the position (shoutout Uncle Phil!) It was here that I began to learn the ins and outs of booking and talent buying. Still to this day I help colleges, companies and private individuals book talent for their concerts and events all over the world!

Eventually I got a job opportunity in Los Angeles so I packed up the U-Haul and drove cross country. I continued as a Talent Buyer but I also quickly brought Andy Grammer into the management side of the new company. We signed a major label deal and enjoyed some incredible success together. Our company later went on to manage many other amazing artists like Rachel Platten, Sam Fischer, etc.

Despite my professional success, I always felt the pull of wanting to be more creative. I was always interested in songwriting and singing since I was young. So when my wife and I started having kids, I made the bold decision to step away from management and lean into my creativity. This decision led me to many incredible opportunities, including being a featured songwriter on NBC’s Songland, where I had the honor of collaborating with icons like Ryan Tedder, Will.i.am and Shane McAnally. Additionally, I signed a publishing deal with Position Music, allowing me to write for sync licensing, other artists, and my own pop-country project, Josh Logan. I am now a CMT and CCMA nominated songwriter and artist and have worked with Grammy Award-winning artists and have had hundreds of songs in major movies, ads and TV shows. I’ve worked with multi-platinum selling artists like the Black Eyed Peas, Darius Rucker, Brett Young, Lauren Alaina, Tenille Arts, Jana Kramer, etc. My music has touched prestigious stages like The Grand Ole Opry and garnered attention from major media outlets like The Tonight Show, Rolling Stone, and Billboard.

About 3 years ago I realized that I missed some aspects of artists management. I specifically missed the service part of it. I really enjoy helping artists grow and find success in their careers. So this is when the Coaching / Consulting part of my story began. It wasn’t until I started coaching that I fully realized how much I had learned in the decade working with Andy Grammer, Rachel Platten, etc. It was so exciting to discover how much my network and skillset could really help other artists! So now, every single week I’m on zoom calls with my clients and we are working on things like booking well-paying shows, fan building & monetization, DSP playlisting, sync licensing, social media strategy, writing sessions, industry showcases & meetings, etc. I’ve found immense fulfillment in consulting for other artists, guiding them through the complexities of the industry and helping them achieve their goals.

I’m grateful for every twist and turn along the way in my careers so far, and I’m eager to see where the future takes me – and the artists I have the privilege of working with.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely! I’d love to give a shoutout to two incredible people who have played pivotal roles in my journey.

First and foremost, I owe a huge debt of gratitude to my wife, Kelly. Over our 14 years together, she’s been my rock, always there to lift me up and inspire me. Her dedication to her own career, as well as being a rockstar wife and mother, is nothing short of extraordinary.

Next, I want to recognize one of my closest friends, Andy Grammer. Our friendship dates all the way back to 3rd grade in upstate New York. Andy’s remarkable success as a songwriter and music artist is a testament to his relentless work ethic and passion for his craft. But beyond his achievements, Andy is simply one of the best humans I’ve ever known. His genuine care for others and his commitment to making a positive impact have undoubtedly shaped me both personally and professionally.

I’m incredibly grateful for the unwavering support and inspiration from Kelly and Andy, and I owe much of my success to their influence in my life.
