We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Da Costa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joshua, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
From a young age, I was always more engaged with sports than academics. The practical aspects of learning, such as participating in sports and performing, were what I thrived on. I also had an interest in business, recognizing early on that understanding entrepreneurship was crucial to self-sufficiency and supporting my family in the future.

Upon graduating from the Guildford School of Acting, I made the decision to become a personal trainer. Fortunately, my career in acting kicked off quickly when I landed a role in the West End, allowing me to save up while living with my grandad.

This financial stability enabled me to fund my certification as a fitness coach.

I founded Joshua Da Costa Fitness Ltd with a clear mission: to enhance people’s lives. I aim to boost their well-being through both entertainment and fitness, addressing both mental and physical health. My ultimate ambition is to make a positive impact on others’ lives, encouraging them to lead healthier and more fulfilled lives. While it’s challenging to sustain a business financially, the satisfaction from making a difference makes it all worthwhile.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
About My Art and Journey:

I think my main goal has always been to make a positive impact with the talents and resources I have. There’s a saying, “you can’t take it with you,” which means you should use what you have now to do good things. I believe that to be successful, you really have to work hard. Luck might help sometimes, like winning a small prize, but you still have to play the game.

I’ve always tried to be someone who shows up and does the work, even when it’s really difficult to do so. This attitude started when I was in school, continued through drama school, and stayed with me while working in the West End and running my own fitness business from a small room. It’s not always easy, but showing up even on tough days has helped me keep going.

My Brand and Legacy:

If I were to think about what I want to leave behind, I’d say I want people to remember me for helping improve their lives. Whether it’s through acting, coaching, or just by being there for others, I want to be known for making a positive difference. I hope my work shows that, and I hope it encourages others to do good things too.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Even though I haven’t traveled much since 2020, I still love thinking about all the great places I’ve been and where I’d like to go. London is one of my favorite cities. It’s so lively and fun, except maybe for the rainy weather. I also like New York because some of my family lives there. And although I haven’t been to Los Angeles yet, I really want to go there soon. It’s especially important for me as an actor and entrepreneur to see different parts of the world.

If my best friend was visiting and we had a week, I’d love to show them around a city that has lots of sunshine. I was a summer baby so I’m biased that summer is the best season and I love the warm weather. We would find places where we can enjoy good food, have fun, and meet interesting people. I’m not tied down to one specific place—I like to explore and enjoy wherever I am.

As a dad, my top priority is my son, but I hope someday soon, we can all travel together and have new adventures as a family.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When we talk about success, it’s important to remember the people who helped us get there. For me, I have to give a big shoutout to my mum. She has always believed in me and never doubted that I could achieve my dreams.

My mum was a single parent, and she worked really hard, like an iceberg where you only see the tip but not all the hard work underneath. She worked all the time and traveled a lot just to make sure we could have what we needed. She always told me to follow my dreams and work hard.

I’ve made mistakes, but my mum has always been there to help me get back up and keep going. She taught me to try to do the right thing and to be a good person. I owe a lot to her. Because of her love and belief in me, I’ve been able to do great things like start my own business and become an actor. She’s the reason I am who I am today, and she deserves a big thank you in my story.
