We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Hoorfar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joshua, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My love and passion for interior design started shortly after high school. I have always wanted to immerse myself in a career that challenged me creatively; it’s always been my dream to have my own interior design company and help clients create a forever home that they loved. After internships, assistant jobs, and eventually a long and successful career in home staging, I felt confident in my skill set and decided it was time to invest in myself and start my own interior design company. It’s definitely had its challenges, but has also been incredibly rewarding to take chances, collaborate with new people, and really get to know the interior design world on a more personal level.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work is a creative and collaborative process with my clients to create and cultivate their forever home or commercial space. We source, dream up, and execute unique and cohesive pieces to help my clients’ visions come to life. Running an interior design business and being in this field requires me to wear so many hats and challenges me in ways I have never been challenged before. Working as an intern, assistant, and home stager has given me invaluable skills and has helped get me to where I am today. And, of course, taking a leap of faith and investing in myself ultimately pushed me to build the business I have thus far. Taking such a big risk was definitely scary but I felt confident in my skills and knew I had the right support around me. I’ve learned so much about management – managing my clients’ feelings and expectations, different projects with different aesthetics at the same time, all while trying to take necessary steps in helping my business grow. I hope that my clients and anyone I work with along this journey are able to see the passion I have for my work and the care that goes into each and every project.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Los Angeles is an incredibly diverse and ever-growing city. I’ve lived here my entire life and am still able to find activities to do and places to see. Living in a busy city has made me appreciate slowing down a little more so my itinerary includes some of that, too. Some of my go-to activities include brunch in Santa Monica, spending a day in Malibu, a day-trip to Santa Barbara, dinner at a cozy restaurant, a picnic at a local park, and maybe going to a live taping of a talk show.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Arya Pedoeim, and all of my clients!
