We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Mannila and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joshua, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursed a career in photography because I have always felt drawn to it. There is something about taking photos that I absolutely love. I love experimenting with different themes and ideas in order to articulate what is happening in my brain, and bringing it to life through my camera lens.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I feel that I am set apart from other photographers because of my age. I started taking photos in middle school and started my business as a freshman in high school. In October of 2020, I drove to Seattle and shot with my friend Tori Keeth. Since then she had introduced me to many of her friends in Los Angeles which really helped me network with other creatives in LA! I started going to LA pretty much every 2 weeks to pursue my photography. It was scary at first, but I loved it!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I don’t live in LA yet, but some of my favorite places to visit are Griffith Observatory for some amazing views of the city! I also love Echo Park with great views of downtown, especially when the swan boats are on the water. I would also visit El Matador beach in Malibu. In my opinion, this is one of the most scenic beaches in the Los Angeles area and makes for some great photos.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to recognize my parents because it would be almost impossible to pursue my photography career in Los Angeles without them. They have made it possible to get around the city, arrive at shoots on time, and then do it all again the next day. I also want to recognize my friend Tori Keeth. I shot with Tori for the first time a couple of years ago in Seattle and she has significantly helped me jumpstart my photography career in Los Angeles.
