We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Mosley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joshua, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
One of the most important lessons I have learned throughout my career is that you must be resilient. Resilience is the ability to bounce back from setbacks, adapt to change, and keep moving forward despite adversity. This skill can make the difference between long term success and failure in both personal and professional endeavors.
Throughout my career, I’ve faced numerous challenges, from project failures to organizational changes. I have always tried my best to take advantage of setbacks and extrapolate lessons that help me refine my vision, strategies and my craft. This has enabled me to maintain a positive attitude, stay motivated, and remain focused on my goals even during tough times.
Additionally, resilience involves being flexible and adaptable. In a fast-paced, ever-evolving industry, the ability to make adjustments is crucial. By staying open to new ideas and pivoting when necessary, you navigate uncertainties and seized new opportunities.
Building resilience requires a growth mindset and a conscious effort to embrace challenges and change. This approach has not only helped me achieve my career goals but also fostered mental fortitude and confidence. As they say, the setback could be your set up for a breakthrough.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is a reflection of a lifelong journey through music, shaped by a rich family heritage and a passion for storytelling. What sets me apart from others in my field is not only my diverse portfolio but also the unique blend of influences and experiences that have shaped my musical perspective and career. From scoring for Emmy nominated Netflix series like “My Dad The Bounty Hunter” to crafting immersive experiences in video games like “The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners” and “Fortnite”, my work spans various mediums and genres, allowing me to explore and push the boundaries of my musical expression.
One of the aspects I’m most proud when it comes to my art is when I create moments in my music that emotionally impact and resonate with people. My goal has always been to evoke deep emotions and enhance the storytelling experience. This ability to connect with listeners on an emotional level is something I strive for in every project.

The journey to where I am today was far from easy. Studying under composer Hummie Mann at the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program was a significant milestone that established a strong foundation and prepared me for a career in music. However, entering the industry required resilience and adaptability. Like many of us composer/producers, I faced the challenge of carving out my own path while navigating the hardships of the inconsistency of projects – especially while raising a family. I overcame numerous challenges by constantly evolving my craft and staying open to new opportunities. Through my faith and the immense support of family, friends and mentors I developed the strength and motivation to overcome the adversities that I faced. Working under and collaborating with industry giants like Chris Lennertz & John Ottman taught me the importance of versatility and innovation.
The lessons I’ve learned along the way are numerous. Persistence and a willingness to learn are crucial. Each project, no matter how small, offers valuable insights and growth opportunities. Building strong relationships and collaborating with talented and innovative teams has also been instrumental in expanding my creative horizons.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that my music is more than just sound; it is a vehicle for storytelling and emotional connection. I aim to create resonant experiences that transcend the boundaries of traditional composition. “Mosley Moments”, if you will. Haha. Living in Southern California with my immensely supportive wife, Reanne, and our three children, I continue to push the limits of what music can achieve, driven by a passion for innovation and a deep-seated love for my craft.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Thats a tough one. I would say we would start day one with a morning visit to Griffith Observatory for the amazing city views, followed by lunch at Public School in the afternoon. Day two at the beach, starting with one of my favorite spots, The cove in Malibu. On the third day We’d hit up Santa Monica Pier. On the fourth day, since most everyone wants to see this once, I would take them to check out the Hollywood Walk of Fame and visit the TCL Chinese Theatre. Fifth day, some fun at Universal Studios Hollywood, spending the whole day at the park. Sixth day, Explore downtown, hang on Sunset blvd. Sports game. Rams or Lakers depending on the season. On the final day, drive along the PCH to Malibu for a another beach day. Have dinner a Duke’s.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this to my family.
