We had the good fortune of connecting with Josiah Lorsung and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josiah, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I used to believe that in business those that take risks will eventually lose the game. I heard a saying about jet pilots and how air combat works that changed my mind. The biggest advantage isn’t weaponry, but the ability to make faster changes than the other guy. If a pilot makes a mistake, which they very likely will they need to be able to fix the problem quickly. I think about taking risks like this, just make a decision, and if you made the wrong one make sure you can pivot out of that mistake. Now this doesn’t mean you can just make any mistake, some mistakes are permit or too difficult to change quickly so avoid those risks, but most business decisions are easy to correct. So go take some risks.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I think most in my position would like to say how special and unique their marketing firm is, but I don’t. I’m not that special and neither is my firm. Sure we provide quality service, care about our client’s growth, and are diligent in not wasting ad revenue. But, there are thousands of firms just like that aren’t there.

But something that sets me apart is I do believe you have to pay a debt, I call it the blood debt, it’s something you have to pay to get to your dreams. It doesn’t matter what that is for you, countless hours, your sanity, quitting your day job that kind of thing. But for me, it was all of my retirement, and it was worth it! I wanted to start the firm and knew I couldn’t do it while I worked a day job so I used my savings and retirement to survive while I built Odin Marketing House. Everyone will have a blood debt to pay to get their dream business. The only thing that sets me apart is I was able to pay the debt and make it.

If you want to start something just know you have to make some kind of sacrifice but if you take that risk and win… It’s so worth it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ideally, they land at the Ontario Airport since it avoids all the downtown traffic.

Yes, I live in the Inland Empire, and yes I know technically its not “LA” but people from out of state can’t tell the difference,

As soon as possible id get them over to The Reverse Orangutan for the best cup of coffee they have ever had, and if you want to fight about it I’m here for that.

Next, I’d take them to all the local breweries like Last name brewing, Hamiltons, and Rescue all great spots.

Then hop over to Claremont for some great food, some great spots are Uno Tre Otto, Meat Cellar and my personal fav because of the history is Sycamore Inn in Upland.

To wrap up our evening theirs always Top Golf my personal favorite Emo Night in Pomona.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without exception it would be my wife, without her hard work, knowledge, and support I would never have been able to achieve what I have now. When we first started the business she worked many many hours helping with the branding, networking, and setting up the back end of the organization and I will forever be grateful for her believing in me and my dreams.
