Meet JoWhim | American Fashion Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with JoWhim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JoWhim, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
From a young age, I’ve been mesmerized by the incredible power of art and design – to create something extraordinary that elicits emotion from others. Visiting the Met’s “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” exhibit for the first time left me in awe. I felt my imagination blossom to levels that were previously limited, and it forever changed how I viewed the world around me. Little did I know that the experience would be a stepping stone on my journey to developing JoWhim – the boldest range of unisex ready-to-wear and accessories.

Many of us hold our creative aspirations close to the chest out of fear that they won’t be accepted. But it was only when I took a leap of faith and started working on those hidden dreams that I discovered my love of color, design, form, and fashion. For those wanting to live life outside of the margins, JoWhim offers a uniquely bold aesthetic without compromising on comfort, sustainability or ethics.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Drawing on my years of experience as a designer and creative director, I’ve had the unique opportunity to work with many different brands from countless industries. From this experience, I have come away with an understanding that timeless design principles are essential for success in any creative endeavor.

At the heart of my art is JoWhim – an LA-based luxury streetwear fashion brand that is unlike anything else on the market. I take inspiration from all walks of life, from classic street style to high fashion; blending together traditional elements with modern trends for a bold look that’s both timeless and eye-catching. I strive to make garments that are not only fashionable but also comfortable and versatile, allowing people to express themselves in myriad ways. JoWhim also offers a unisex approach to apparel that appeals to individuals of all identities.

I have learned the value of taking risks even through adversity. By believing in myself and being persistent, I was able to turn everyday moments into something extraordinary by using nothing but creativity and determination.
Being your own cheerleader is key when it comes down to making your dreams come true; if you keep going no matter what life throws at you, you’ll make it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
LA is a hub of culture, artistry and adventure. You’ll definitely want to see the works on display in local galleries or The Broad Museum and don’t forget to Immerse yourself in the rich array of cuisines at Grand Central Market crafted by LA’s own small businesses.

For my LGBTQIA+ friends in search of an exciting night out, West Hollywood is one among many locations that provide dinner and lively dancing! A perfect place to explore for a fun evening full of self-expression.

If you’re looking to reconnect with nature, take some time away from city life to hike Griffith Observatory or Runyon Canyon for incredible views overlooking Los Angeles.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
No matter how long or winding the journey, we owe much of our success to those who stay by our side. A special friend in my life is particularly unique – her love knows no bounds and she exudes a kindness that never grows old. Creative like me, but with an incorruptible heart; I can always count on gentle reminders from sweet text messages sent throughout the day – often heartfelt notes encouraging pause for self-care and reflection as well. This is a rare form of love.
