We had the good fortune of connecting with Joy Orleans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joy, how do you define success?
I define success as doing something that brings you joy! To be successful is to follow your passions and be your own person. For me, success came when I started being able to do the things I enjoy often! It also means being with the people that bring you joy as well! Spending time with people that lift you up and make you happy is success.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m deeply passionate about reviving soul music and preserving its rich tradition and culture. Soul isn’t just a genre to me—it’s the foundation of much of today’s popular music and culture. What sets me apart is my dedication to honoring the roots of soul while keeping it relevant for modern audiences.

I’m especially excited about my annual Soul Session, happening on December 29, 2024, at Soundbite Studios. It’s a chance to bring together artists and music lovers who truly appreciate the artistry and history of soul music, and to celebrate its ongoing influence on contemporary sounds.

The journey hasn’t been easy. Reviving soul in a fast-changing industry requires persistence, authenticity, and a commitment to community. I’ve learned that soul music thrives when people connect over it, and staying true to its roots is key.

I want the world to know that soul music is more than nostalgia—it’s a living tradition that continues to shape music today. Through my work, I’m focused on keeping that legacy alive while fostering a vibrant community of creators and fans.
