We had the good fortune of connecting with Jozzy Camacho and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jozzy, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
I guess for me as I get older, I define success with comfort.
Being able to not only provide for myself, but for the people who rely on me.
I find myself caring less about the spotlight, and more about my ability to live life however I see fit.
Weather that’s traveling to explore new territories.
Eating at restaurants that’ll change and grow my perspectives about food.
Being able to afford my bills, and help others with ease.
That to me, is success.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Although art was apart of my make up as a human. I truly believe it was what saved me from self sabotaging.
I was forced to make a choice in which direction of life I wanted to lead.
And the other path was promising of all things negative.
So I chose to commit myself to a craft that was way harder than I ever could have imagined.
Tattooing.
With no former education in art or tattooing, I charged my way through the journey as bullish as I deemed necessary.
I started at the very bottom, setting constant goals for myself to grow and become one of the most sought out tattooers in the world.
Within that journey I picked up other forms of art. Painting large murals, fashion, and other small endeavors I hold dear to my heart.
Nothing about being an artist is easy.
We’re at a constant war for exposing the most vulnerable parts of ourselves to the world for them to judge, and criticize. In hopes they accept the madness we create from our souls.
But I’d never regret the risk I took.
It kept me humble, and it made me hungry.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
NYC is one of, if not my favorite place on earth.
It has offered me so much insight on culture, humanity, history, and self development.

If I were to bring anyone here for the first time, I would show them just that.
I would take them to eat some of the best food they’ll ever have. From French, to Lebanese, or Chinese and Mexican. All in one day, because everything is at reach, at all times.
I would show them the creativity within all the speakeasy’s and artwork that run through this city.
The talent that plays music in the subway stations.
And the dive bars that have seen more faces than any mirror elsewhere.
There’s something about NYC that brings the lost people to the surface. It breaks them apart, and resets their idea of life.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s a few people I hold responsible for my success.
Starting with my grandparents.
They implemented so much drive and dedication into the core of who I am.
They never allowed me the space to believe anything was out of reach, even if it seemed far away.
My mother and my brother for always believing I was way more valuable than I ever gave myself credit for. Or ever even noticed I possessed. Supporting me endlessly and rooting for me within every endeavor.
I’ve been blessed to encounter some amazing people within my journey who have all given me some tool to move forward in life with.
