We had the good fortune of connecting with Juanita Caldwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Juanita, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking has played a major role in my happiness and overall success. The biggest risk I’ve taken has led to me making the best decision of my life! I moved across the country and created a fitness brand that started out as just an idea! Before August of 2018 I’ve always played things pretty safe, my next step was always calculated, and I always had my plan b-z already figured out. Playing things safe started to get boring- I was yearning for more, waiting to discover my passion but scared of failing along the way. The first step to taking these risks was embracing my fear of failure and then accepting it. Once I became comfortable with the idea failing, the risk started to seem more attainable. So far my two biggest risk; moving to California and starting Nït Fit have been huge successes that keep fueling me to take more.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Nït Fit is a fitness company created to cultivate & inspire healthier lifestyles by connecting people through our communities to make fitness a priority. Through Nït Fit I offer training plans uniquely created for each individual client through both personal and group training classes. My main goal is to help my clients feel completely comfortable and empowered in their bodies and minds through fitness. Nït Fit is coaching, mentoring, inspiring and leading any and every one to reach their goals through fitness, health, and wellness. It is a fitness brand that was not only created but a lifestyle that I live by daily. My priority is in making fitness a lifestyle and something that is a part of your routine. I believe if you stay ready you don’t have to get ready! I am most proud of my growth, taking this idea of making fitness a lifestyle and truly living in it! Coming up with the ideas and plans seem easy, it’s the follow through and putting in the hard work that gets tough. I got to where I am today through hard work, perseverance and taking risk! My route did not come easy, yet I enjoyed every minute of the ride. I’ve been an athlete my entire life, sports were all I ever knew because of so much time dedicated to it. I never had any serious dreams of doing my sport professionally so I always knew if I wasn’t going to be the athlete I wanted to work in the industry in whatever capacity I could. I tried it all, from broadcasting to marketing to sales to partnership and in the moment I could not feel I was living in my purpose. I started coaching a high school track team part time and the brightest light bulb went off- I found my passion. Once I discovered the love I had for coaching and training I knew immediately what I had to do next. Switching careers and moving across the country simultaneously is a tremendous challenge in itself. Once I faced my fears of failing the challenge began to seem smaller. The main lesson I learned through my journey is to not be afraid of failure and to embrace the unknown. What sets me apart from others in my industry is my drive for creating unique experiences for people through fitness. My goal is to connect with my community through health and wellness that is not just a workout but a way of life.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to my village. There is a saying “It takes a village to raise a child”, and my village did wonders for me! I have always had a strong support system from my family molding me into the woman I am today, to my friends reminding me that the sky is the limit. I’ve always known that my tribe was extraordinary, however; my friends gifting me a trademark for my business showed the genuine love and support they have for my long-term success. The way my village continues to encourage and believe in me is truly the main driving force in my dedication and determination.
