Meet Jue Lin | Director & Photographer & Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jue Lin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jue, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Perhaps it’s a sense of innate mission? Even though I’ve tried different roles over the years, one thing has remained constant: I’ve always been in the arts, always creating. Aside from a fascination with the cosmos that once made me dream of becoming an astronaut, I haven’t seriously considered working outside of this field. I simply believe that humanity’s greatest assets are imagination and creativity—in every moment of inspiration, it feels like I get a glimpse into the mysteries of the world. From a young age, whether through painting, performing, or filming, I’ve been exploring ways to recreate everything around me. Rather than keeping my mind confined within limited boundaries, I want it to be more vibrant, and I believe art can help me achieve that.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I hold a strong belief in the existence of alternate worlds. I imagine there are multiple parallel realms on Earth, filled with legendary creatures and awe-inspiring sights that transcend our usual awareness. This belief has been a powerful driving force for me. As a single human being, I feel unable to truly reach or explore these other worlds, limited as I am by the absence of supernatural powers. So, I turn to visual art to follow my intuition and reveal the mysteries of different dimensions. My exploration takes shape through photography, videos, and conceptual art. I believe that the true nature of our world resides deep within the human mind, and challenging our perception of it is a goal I’m constantly working toward in my creative journey.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, I’d love to suggest going to Disney or Universal Studios—I’m a huge fan of theme parks, and at this point in my life, theme parks feel like the closest thing to one of my dreams. But if I were to offer another choice, it would definitely be a deep dive into nature. For instance, we could visit Yellowstone or Yosemite Valley to marvel at the geysers and incredible landscapes. We might even rent a cabin in the woods, sleep until we naturally wake up, and then take a stroll among the trees, breathing in the fresh air and soaking up the sunlight. Most of my close friends are also nature enthusiasts, and stepping away from busy, populated areas to immerse ourselves in raw, spiritual places really benefits our mental and physical health while helping us find inspiration for our creative work.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It would definitely be the Japanese manga and anime Attack on Titan. I can say, without exaggeration, that this work reshaped my worldview to some extent. It wasn’t just the stunning storyline, the deeply authentic characters, or the profound messages conveyed—it was also the way it stirred my thinking on a deeper level. Before this, I may have stubbornly believed that only one form of art could truly bring my desire to journey to another world to life. However, this work made me realize the limitations of a single art form and prompted me to rethink my future career path. I saw endless possibilities in this work. For example, some expressive techniques in anime are difficult to achieve in live-action film. In a certain way, could anime even surpass film in specific modes of expression? For someone like me, trained in film school, this was a striking realization. Beyond that, the epic narrative of Attack on Titan made me feel that everything happening within it was truly real—just in another universe. Yes, if enough people believe in this story, then in some sense, it comes to life in the universe.
