Meet Jugashree Bisoi | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jugashree Bisoi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jugashree, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Bhubaneswar is a temple city in Odisha, India where I was born and raised. We have greatly valued our lives with the education we have received from parents and elders and their guidance towards building our lives, and I would consider those to be blessings to us.
My parents raised me with my wonderful sisters. My interest in drawing began as a child. As a child, I became fascinated with drawing through my mother’s small drawings and small embroidery drawings. This led me to pursue a formal art career. Our family-run publication house was in those days when other artists were hired to design the cover for great authors’ books. It reminds me of the cover I had for one of the greatest authors in India, which was highly praised. Early on in my education, my interest in art helped me pursue a career in fine art, which never stopped and led me to obtain both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Fine Arts, among many other accomplishments.” Upon moving to the United States with my husband, my artwork reached a whole new level as I started working with art organizations in a California-based company with wonderful artists as well as participating in local art galleries and partnering with non-profit organizations. Each time I create something new, I am encouraged by the positive feedback received from people, galleries, and buyers.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
An artistic endeavor is a highly individual undertaking requiring a great deal of dedication and perseverance to achieve the goals you have set for yourself. In many respects, it is a way of life. The choice I made to become an artist was mine. My art and painting are series-based and realistic. In spite of this, my favorite theme is water lilies. I often depict moving water in my paintings. My technique involves painting both thin and thick layers on the same canvas. The impressionist style is my favorite for painting lilies on canvas where I sometimes use my fingers to paint them.
Our most creative moments are spent alone as artists, and our most inspiring moments are derived from our connections with others. To date, I would say that this art journey has brought me a variety of experiences and a wealth of knowledge, thus I would say that this journey has not been an easy one, since we must devote ourselves to it and take it seriously, which requires discipline and dedication.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The northern lights would definitely be a highlight of my trip to Pictured Rocks Lakeshore if I had a friend visiting me here in the US. One of the most scenic places I’ve seen in Michigan! Whether you’re interested in shopping, hiking, or just enjoying nature, that would be at the top of my list! I’d have to take them out to my favorite places and restaurant.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband’s unwavering support and belief in me has played a significant role in my career successes. My second half of my professional career as an artist was significantly influenced by him. He helps me manifest my dreams by seeing the treasure inside me. He keeps me going when things get tough and helps me remember who I am. I am fortunate to have many wonderful people around me especially Cliff, my manager. Under his guidance, I learned all the things that helped me further refine my artistic career and help me learn new ideas and techniques.
