We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Oro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I used to work in an office before I started my own business. One day I realized that I have to focus on myself and my family and I knew that the only way to do that was to start my own business. I have more opportunities for self-growth, more free time, and more control over my life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
For me the recipe for success is when you mix together professional passion, a good educational foundation, plus experience.

My favorite hobby was doing food photography at home. I took classes online and learned a lot. I practiced every day and shared my photos on social media. Now, thanks to social media, people can show their talents, gain experience, and get people’s opinions on your skills. When I made the decision to turn my hobby into a profession, that was when the hard part started. I didn’t doubt my abilities, but I was afraid to communicate to clients. English is not my native language and was thinking I could lose job opportunities because of miscommunication or misunderstandings.

Thanks to my clients, after several years working with different brands and restaurants my vision for my work changed. I realized that if someone is looking for a professional photographer for a specific project and that person likes what you create, the professional skills are the only things which matter.

I continue to provide top-notch photographic services for my clients but that doesn’t mean that I have stopped learning. I enjoy learning new techniques and continue to develop my skills as a photographer..

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For me LA means incredible vibes, beaches, hikes, and gorgeous sunsets. I`d love to share everything with my friend. I love watching the vibrant colors filling up the sky as the sun sets from different spots especially the boardwalk in Santa Monica or after a short hike up to Griffith Observatory or the Hollywood hills, I`d love to bring them to the El Matador Beach and Palos Verdes Cliffs and of course as a photographer to take a couple of pictures. Riding a bike alongside the ocean on the boardwalk, stopping by the angel wings mural and trying authentic tacos right at the corner of my apartment in the city center are definite must-dos.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to mention an amazing person and great photographer Olia Luis @bellies.n.babies. We started our professional journey at the same time and now I am inspired by her work. I have learned a lot from her and I just love seeing how her career has grown.
