We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Pennington and Allison Lange and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julia and Allison, what is the most important factor behind your success?
There are many factors behind the success of Hera, but if we have to choose one, it’s the belief that together we can make a difference. People want to help. People want to feel good about brands they support and want businesses that authentically commit to giving back. It’s important to us that our vodka is of the highest quality and tastes fantastic. Hera The Dog Vodka is organic, meticulously crafted, with detailed attention given to quality and consistency. However, it’s the heart of our company, the commitment to help animals in need, that is building the passionate Hera community so quickly.
What should our readers know about your business?
The fact that we came from the non-profit world sets us apart from many other brand owners. Some might say that our background, 20 plus years of running non-profit animal rescues isn’t “ideal” in the world of “business”, but that experience has taught us how to stretch a dollar, to know the importance of staying connected to the community and that the drive to pay it forward is a powerful force that can get us through almost anything.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you’ve seen our label, you’ll see that Hera looks like her hair is being blown by the wind. That is because we have her sitting atop the highest hill in a park that not many people in Los Angeles know about, called Kenneth Hahn Park. The reason she’s sitting there is that from the apex of that hill, you can see the coastline to the west, the line of mountains to the north, and to the east, you can see the downtown skyline. It felt like the perfect place to have Hera perched because, in our mind, she’s looking out to all of the animals in Los Angeles for whom she’s on a mission to help. So we would take our best friend to Kenneth Hahn Park to show them the stunning views of our city and share with them the deeper meaning that location has for our company.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Where do we start? Every person who purchases, pours, spreads the word about Hera is helping us make a difference. Regarding getting Hera on her feet, for her very first steps, we give a big shout out to several key individuals – Jon Pennington, Jeffrey Blyseth, Jeff and Jenny Pennington, Jean Lange, Jay Pennington, Joan Pennington, and Kelly Magill.
