We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia rose davidson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julia rose, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
In my life there have been many different things I was always interested in. Whether it’s performing, dancing, or doing art. I was able to dissolve into my own little world and that gave me such a purpose, no matter what was going on in my life the creativity of this pulled my mind to a different place and I was truly happy. I felt for a long time I was trying to find the one thing that can combined creativity in any in every way. Fashion is about movement, expression, creating a masterpiece. I truly can lose myself in it and that’s when I know I wanna make it most of my life, my career.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a kid there is always a part of me that love to create. Whether it was on stage in drama, pastels to a canvas, or dressing up in my moms closet for hours on end. Growing up my life took me to many different places. After attending over 14 different schools, living in numerous different cities, and having to adapt very quickly to new settings, it shaped me into who I am today. For a while I thought I would be on Broadway, then I thought a writer, but I could never fully give my heart and soul to anything completely. All the moving around made it hard for me to settle, on what I wanted to be in life and physically with relationships. my parents thought I was just a gifted child I won’t deny that they were right… This may sound superficial but I live in LA so I feel like I can say this now, I was my happiest when I was shopping. I love to play with with clothes, in a store, out of friends house, or in vintage stores. It took me out of the world of being bullied by girls who didn’t understand me, struggling with trying to find my identity at every new school, or dealing with major depression and anxiety that isolated me from a social life. I never really felt like I could find that one passion in my life that made me want to be my best self. I couldn’t figure out what that thing would be that would ground me. When I graduated college with a journalism and mass communications degree, I truly didn’t know where I wanted to land yet. My interest in fashion had been the highest It had ever been and I dedicated all my projects to involving it in my life. But even in the fashion industry I still couldn’t pinpoint exactly where I wanted to be. Sure, I tried the blogging thing… But didn’t everyone? Then marketing, e-commerce, and digital styling. After the pandemic I knew I couldn’t sit behind a computer anymore, all day giving energy that just didn’t feel right. It felt like no better time then to take a leap at some thing I’ve always wanted to do at its highest capacity. I knew I wanted to be a stylist and I quit my 9-to-5 with a few months of savings and decided I would give it a go. If I didn’t have any traction in two or three months I would pick up another job. after two months of stalking my fashion stylist icons on the Internet, trying to bump into them in public, and sending them mass messages, I landed my first fashion assisting job with a celebrity stylist. From their things just took off, I was landing commercial jobs, celebrity styling jobs, and more! this is the hardest job I have ever had, there are days where I sit in my car and wanna scream and there are days that I go home on cloud nine. But every day when I lay my head on my pillow I know I’m doing exactly what I want to be doing, and for the first time in my life I feel truly settled.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My friends tell me that I am the happiest I’ve ever looked living in LA. I feel like this city has an area for everyone and I’m lucky that I am able to grow here. Now that I’m 28 I like nice relaxing weekend, driving up to Malibu to my favorite beaches are restaurants, Malibu Farms has some of the best ceviche I’ve ever had. Sometimes I like to check out new designers or new stores that have opened, or go to museum galleries. I would say my favorite thing to do on an ideal weekend would be to try a new spot for dinner. Afterwords stop by a speakeasy or a pop-up bar for a nightcap and then wake up Saturday and go to one of my favorite brunch spots. met her at a bar is by far the best brunch place I’ve been to so far! I honestly love our apartment it’s very old Hollywood so I like to hang out with my wiener dog on the balcony and listen to music. If I’m feeling crazy I like to walk around some of the gorgeous shopping centers that we have here in LA. The Grove is a fan favorite for me or century city. If I’m feeling really really crazy then I’ll go to Rodeo and window shop. I get joy just looking at beautiful things that sparked creativity for new outfits and looks. Saturday night I’ll hit up my favorite authentic taco truck, because truly you can’t go wrong with Mexican food in LA. Sundays are for farmers markets or vintage flea markets, I started collecting vintage pieces with my boyfriend and we have a very solid collection I like to pull from and use for clients and shoots.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this to my family. They’ve always supported me in every capacity and let me truly go on a journey to find what I wanted to be in life. I wouldn’t be here without them and their continued support is what keeps Me whole. I also would like to shout out the people in my industry who have taken a chance on me, trusted my vision and created a safe space for me to grow.
