Meet Julian Shah-Tayler

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julian Shah-Tayler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julian, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“We create our own reality” is such an important edict to me. It’s a lyric from one of my songs “Heaven Is Here” and has a great deal of philosophical weight. If we decide it can’t be done, it can’t. If we decide we will find a way to make it happen, then it will

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a musician, we can only ever acknowledge the giants on whose shoulders we stand. My biggest musical influences are Bowie, The Beatles, Kate Bush and Prince.
It is in study of their work that I find inspiration and beauty.
My biggest achievement is being able to articulate and reach catharsis for my emotional life through my music.
I am most excited about moving forward, specifically releasing the next album “Honne Tatame” which represents a huge change and major milestone in my songwriting.
Becoming a professional musician full time was not at all easy. I find that in the creative arts, we are always challenged with the financial quandries: Making art is not often synonymous with making money.
I have learned that you must trust your instincts and make friends with people. It is only with interpersonal relationships that we thrive.
I want the world to know that in every song I write there is an honest truth about who I am. It is the only way I communicate fully in the emotional realm.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to South Pasadena – Mission St. “Mike and Anne”‘s, “Bistro De La Gare” “The Raymond” and “Granville” for food/drinks.
We’d visit Huntington Gardens, maybe Barnsdall Park, Santa Monica Pier, The Rainbow for some Rock and Roll stuff.
Rodeo Drive for some rich people spotting. Melrose for down and dirty shopping.
I have to say the Bourbon Room as I’d love to have a show in the time they were visiting.
The Disney Music Hall and the Music Centre downtown with a trip to the Cathedral are all interesting for sightseeing.
If the Descanso Gardens has the lights or the pumpkin festival, that’s always worth a visit!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to the people in life who choose love over fear.
