Meet Julianne Hummelberg | Consumer Venture Capital Investor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julianne Hummelberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julianne, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
When a door closes, it usually means a better door is opening. As I look back on some of the biggest disappointments in my career, I’m filled with gratitude for what I learned during those times and where those learnings got me. The opportunities that presented themselves after these disappointments have turned into some of my greatest career achievements.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m a consumer investor supporting entrepreneurs as they scale their brands. I’m passionate about entrepreneurship, especially within health & wellness. I’ve been on the board of 8 phenomenal CPG companies that are transforming our food and beverage industry with products and supply chains that are better for humanity and the planet. I work collaboratively with the founders, board members and management teams to help them navigate the different challenges that come at each stage of growth. I’ve always been passionate about using food and diet to optimize human health after experiencing burnout and several diet-related health issues and believe that food can be medicine. I’ve earned my MBA from Columbia Business School where I was a Venture and Private Equity Fellow and President of the Healthy Living Club and also holds a BA in Economics from Wake Forest University, where I graduated cum laude.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Assuming they just got off of a long flight, I would take them straight to either Next Health or Remedy place for a restorative IV drop, and perhaps some cryo, infrared sauna therapy or the hyperbaric oxygen chamber to help detox from the travel. After that, I’d take them to a delicious, nourishing and fun brunch at Urth Cafe or The Ivy on Robertson followed by a Runyon Canyon hike and some shopping in WeHo. Of course, I’d have to take them to the beach as well! You can’t go wrong with Nobu Malibu for sunset followed by the beach and maybe even a hike a Point Dume.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am a board member of Synergist Network, an organization that seeks to connect women in the first decade of their investing careers and provide them with the infrastructure, network, and business acumen critical for long-term success. I love seeing women supporting women within a male dominated industry and I’m forever grateful for their vision to work towards gender parity in the private equity and venture capital industries. We execute on this vision through four key pillars: Recruiting, Networking, Training & Education and Mentorship.
