We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Cegelski and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I moved to Arizona to live with my boyfriend and once I moved in I realized his house was a bit cold/bachelor pad vibes. I set out to make his house a home by purchasing some great pieces like rugs and coffee tables, pieces to pull the rooms together. After COVID hit I lost my job and my taste in home to decor how to reflect that. Instead of CB2 and Restoration Hardware I was looking at Tuesday Morning and TJ MaXX, I found some great pieces but I thought why isn’t there a happy middle market of unique, good quality home good products and that is how The House Warming Project was found. We work with high quality manufacturers to source the best products for your home. Once we have secured all the products for a kitchen we will makeover a kitchen for a family in need or experiencing a hard time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am just starting the journey of creating my own online home goods store, but it definitely has not been easy. I second guess myself often and get in my own head. To help me focus I try and listen to podcasts like How I Built This, Goal Digger and Second Life, its nice to hear about people who have started something and had hardships but kept going. I have learned the only way I can fail is if I quit, I get set backs daily and I cant let that defeat me. Our brand is all about the experience, we want the website, social media, packaging to make your feel good. We want to the products to make you smile and feel comfortable in your own home.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friends were visiting me in Manhattan Beach I would take morning bike ride to El Porto, watch the surfers and head back down to Strand House for a drink and rest. For lunch we might hit up Fish Bar and then do a little walk on the beach and end at James Enoteca for dinner in El Segundo followed by hitting some breweries if open. Now living in Scottsdale I would go to the Omni for a day of sun in the pool followed by treatments like a facial and massage. Finish the night at Americano 🙂

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes! I couldn’t do this project with out my boyfriend who believes in me and pushes me everyday to work harder. I also took Alison Prince’s classes all about e-commerce and she really makes it user friendly and helps with tips x tricks and a community. Lastly I followed Power House Women and join the weekly calls for inspiration and connection.
