Meet Julie Margi

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Margi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julie, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
My business is built on the belief that true beauty is found in service and connection. I strive to create experiences that help people feel confident, comfortable, and empowered—because when you look good, you feel good, and you show up as your best self.
I’ve had the honor of volunteering at City of Hope with Lipstick Angels, where one patient shared that after our session, she finally felt confident enough to go on a date night with her husband—something she hadn’t done in a long time. Moments like that remind me that beauty is not just surface-level—it can be deeply restorative and meaningful.
In addition to my client work, I contribute to causes that enrich the lives of others. I support schools and initiatives that invest in future students, and I’ve worked with organizations like the Association of Black Women Physicians to help uplift and celebrate women making a difference in their communities.
My goal is always to use my gifts to make others feel their best—because that confidence can be life-changing.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work is centered on helping people feel confident, celebrated, and seen. Whether it’s makeup, skincare, or spray tanning, I love helping others step into their best self.
What I’m most proud of is the connection I’ve built with my clients. Some of them have been with me for 18 years, and they’ve stood by me through every season. At one point, I even tried to walk away from the industry. I went through burnout and took a career detour, working at a mortuary in funeral services. I thought I needed a complete change—but what I really needed was to reconnect with my purpose.
It was my clients who refused to let me retire. They reached out, encouraged me, and reminded me of what I bring to their lives. I realized I didn’t just miss the art—I missed them. The conversations, the trust, the laughter, the shared moments. That experience taught me that what I do isn’t just a job—it’s a calling.
The journey hasn’t been easy, but I’ve learned that passion has a way of pulling you back to where you belong. I’m forever grateful to the people who never gave up on me, and I’m committed to showing up for them with excellence, gratitude, and heart.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit, the very first stop would be my spa at Pasadena Beauty Bar. She only trusts me with her beauty services, so we’d kick off the trip with brows and facials to prep for the week ahead.
Since I live in Covina and work in Pasadena, I’d alternate where we stay and explore so she could experience the best of both. In Covina, we’d grab dinner at Fonda Don Chon—their Mexican food is unbeatable. If we were in Pasadena, we’d hit up Cabrera’s for a cozy, flavorful meal or Granville for something fresh and modern.
One night, we’d catch a comedy show at the Laugh Factory in Covina, and another evening we’d find a play at the Pasadena Playhouse or even a small, off-the-beaten-path theater. We both love trying new experiences, so I’d definitely look up current pop-ups, art shows, or wine events in the area—anything with a good vibe and a great view.
If we felt like venturing out, I’d take her to Tony’s on the Pier in Redondo Beach for the ocean view and seafood, or Damon’s in Glendale for its vintage tiki vibes. And for a fun night out? Karaoke at Brass Monkey—always a classic.
We love a mix of beauty, food, fun, and spontaneity—so I’d keep the week filled with just that.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I want to thank my incredible clients—some of whom have been with me for 18 years. Their loyalty and trust have truly shaped my journey and kept me inspired.
I also have to thank my Dad for pushing me to go and his friend who explained what being an esthetician is. At a time when I didn’t even know what esthetics was, they encouraged me to turn what was just a hobby into a real career. Miss Riley was my incredible teacher who I will never forget, thank you for giving me the foundation I needed to grow in this industry. I’m so grateful for every person who believed in me from the start.
