Meet Juliet Ramos | Founder of BrokenGirl Unchained

We had the good fortune of connecting with Juliet Ramos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Juliet, how does your business help the community?
It has been my goal since I started BrokenGirl Unchained to help people. I always thought that if I could just help one person, then my mission would be a success. I have therapists, relationship coaches, lawyers, and other professionals on the show who are able to dispense advice for the listening audience. Often, I will get feedback from people who tell me that a particular show helped them with their own personal struggles and aided them on their own healing journey. By partnering with organizations in the local community (and beyond) BrokenGirl Unchained is able to help provide another service to individuals in need who might not have access otherwise. It has always been my goal to raise mental health awareness and help with suicide prevention. I feel that I have been successful in both of these endeavors and look forward to continuing to help in the future.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I often tell people that my life should be a Lifetime movie. Honestly, you can’t make a lot of this stuff up. I think one of the reasons why the show resonates with the audience is how raw and real the podcast episodes are. I don’t hold back on the show, and there’s something about that reality that makes people come back to listen again. I got to where I am the old fashioned way, just grinding it out day to day. It definitely is not easy. Honestly, there are days when it can be overwhelming, and I question my desire to pursue a creative type of career. When I feel those challenges, I remind myself that I have an opportunity to help others and work a job I love. There’s that old saying, “do something you love and you’ll never work another day in your life.” I live by that maxim and thrive on having a creative outlet that I get to call my profession. I want the world to know that it’s ok to swim upstream. You don’t have to follow a “traditional” career path to be happy. Don’t get me wrong, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with those jobs; however, there’s something about taking the risk and putting yourself out there that is very rewarding at the end of the day. BrokenGirl Unchained is for everyone. We give a voice to anyone with a good story to tell. All too often, we get caught up in the cult of personality, thinking that you have to be some celebrity to tell a meaningful story. I just want someone, famous or unknown, to be real and open. Those make the best interviews, and that’s what makes BrokenGirl unique.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of the best parts of living in California is the diversity. I don’t live in Southern California, but I did grow up in San Diego. Where I live now, it is central to everything. I can be in the Bay Area or the foothills of the Sierras in a little over an hour. There’s so much to explore. I love Pacifica, Big Sur, Point Lobos, Sacramento, Tahoe, and (of course) LA. Honestly, one of my favorite things to do is take off with a full tank and go mural hunting. Most cities have plenty of murals that you can explore. That is one of my favorite things about LA, there’s so much artwork everywhere. Plus, there’s a lot of rich history in and around the city. You could get lost just exploring for much more than a week. I think it’s fun to be a tourist of sorts in your hometown, but avoid the typical places. Since Mike and I love taking pictures, we’re always looking for a location that would photograph well. It could be a random staircase, or even a corner that has a dramatic view. It’s tough to pick a certain place since that’s so subjective for most people.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, my partner in crime. My partner in BrokenGirl Unchained and in life, Mike! Mike is BGU’s CFO, Editor Co=Producer and our photographer. He’s great at everything in life, He brings so much life into BrokenGirl Unchained, Sounds a little cliche, however I wouldn’t be were I am at today if it wasn’t for Mykelle’. ( aka Mike). He set my dreams in motion, He believed in my dream when nobody else did, I’ve been educated so much within the last 4 years of knowing him . He’s seen my heart shattered into those tiny fragmented pieces you all read about and listen to through the BrokenGirl Unchained Blog & Podcast. He’s helped me through the worst emotional and mental abuse I have ever been through, He’s witnessed some of those stories first hand and (without knowing it) he’s enrich my life and my children’s life with his patience as we’re all still healing. He’s help[ed me through some of life”s ugliest trials, Trials that are designed to break any relationship apart. He’s listened to the same stories as I try to make sense of them all myself. I am often awestruck by Mikes ability to enrich the world through the wisdom in his perspective, I don’t always agree and that’s okay, Mike has given me the understanding of healthy communication & healthy arguments. It’s because of him that BrokenGirl has a pulse. Mike gifted me the website in 2018. He’s invested with me and made sure my dream became reality, So, thank you Mykelle for testing me daily. Thank you for holding my hair back after my chemo treatments, and thank you for allowing me to completely die inside . Because of you my rebirth has been so beautiful . You gave back my confidence and I was able to love myself again. Te Amo.
